Always liked the 50th green, and it leaves me change. They have/ Had one in T5 at Tax free price too, a classic, but too close to my seamaster in looks to consider it even if I had the money..which I dont, by a long way.

If that's an LV David, you can pick them up for circa £3k BNIB from friendly ADs. I've gone off it a bit now as a couple of my mates have them. You can buy a black bezel insert to be more individual though ;) :blackeye

As for the Daytona - £6k is your minimum.

Doing my darndest not to put myself even more in the red buy pulling the trigger on a Sea Dweller :x

Would definately recommend a Submariner Date in Stainless, to me it's the most original and best looking. I have a GMT Master II which is also a nice watch and looks good with the new ceramic bezel, but I still wish I'd bought the classic Submariner instead..

Other option is the Deep Sea? (Sea Dweller replacement), heavier and chunkier than a Submariner or the Explorer II (white or black face with a fixed bezel).

Daytona's are still in high demand and at a large premium if you can get them (starting to go off them a bit too)

Cheers, Peter

Took the plunge at the weekend after deciding I had gone right off the navy face of the 8 year old Seamaster. Market for used watches has swung dramatically so my trade in value looked to be in jeopardy until Laings of Glasgow came in with a decent offer. A previous specialist pawnbroker who offered my £400 before xmas wasn't even interested in buying it all now due to the credit crunch etc. Did not contemplate buying in Aberdeen due to oil influence......

Traded the old dawg for £475 in the end ( bought it for £775 8 years ago !) To buy it new is £1100+ now so watches really are a decent investment...

So basically I wrangled about £200 off the RRP. Not the 20% I hoped for but apparently the Planet Ocean sell in lower volumes so discounting is less likely.

this was the review that swung it for me............took me forever to decided whether to go plain black face or plain black with orange detail ( never keen on the orange bezel though)

Cheers for all the advice of late - my advice is if your bored with your time-piece then trade up :D

Yip the Omega. I never made it that apparent in my post though  . I have tried a Sub Mariner before and the bracelet "felt" cheap and feeble despite the higher grade steel :? etc. It was pretty noisey too in terms of jangling about and making a racket

I'm confused too. The article concludes by saying "For me, there truly is only one King of the sea - the Sea-Dweller." :scratch

Really nice watch the PO, feels very substantial and well made. Enjoy :thumbsup

What I meant was that the article swung me to go for the PO because it got a pretty damn good review. The cost delta between the SM & the PO is £1350 so that was another factor.

I've just treated myself do a dive computer (for my scuba diving)
I've got a Tag Kirium, but it needs a new crown screw & this is part of the service @ £180 !
so, not 100% waterproof - so theory behind the purchase was to not service the Tag & buy this. (Trying to convince myelf here)
So, i went & got myself a "Suunto D6" -
basically a dive computer with built in digital compass & it doubles up as a watch too.

hope you like it as much as me....! :D

I put it in my aquarium & it was reading 0.3metres & 27 degrees.... lol

David.... I can highly recommend Chris Heale for Tag Servicing (http://www.chealwatch.com/). Prices are waaaay cheaper than Tag direct, and as far as I am aware he's about the only one in the UK who's authorised to get genuine parts from Tag.
Speed of service is another bonus. I sent my Kirium to him for my last service & it was returned in 2 weeks (try that turaround from Tag directly !!!).

Money wise... my Kirium is an automatic (Chronometer/COSC jobbie). It had stopped, and I could not get it started. The amount of time a wind would last had been reducing a fair bit until it finally wouldn't hold a wind so I feared a big bill. Over the internet, he gave me a quote of £120 to repair & service.... when he got the watch & looked at it, I received an email to advise it was only going to be £80... so it's an honest outfit as far as I'm concerned.

Only drawback is that he's down south... so you need to post you watch to him (make sure it's insured postage). Also, he doesn't like boxes sent to him... watch only... so I was a bit concerned the Postie/Courier would play football with it.

Just thought I'd let you know :)

Excellent - cheers for that.
I had heard of him - but i am always weary now of internet "purchases"
Paying money etc & the company isnt there anymore.... (been stung twice this year)
I'll give them a phone when i get back & organise it.
Currently in Malta scuba diving......playing with my new watch.

Cheers !

Acid test tomorrow night David, at the Dreadnought Track Night. Missing the lack of roof off motoring at the moment, but enjoying the RX8 for road driving so far. If it's fun on track tomorrow, it's a 'pass'.. (not too bothered about it being quicker or slower per lap... as long as it can make me smile).

Sorry.. Back on topic :thumbsup
