Sad news Jamie, but agree that it looks repairable, and as it is almost my sister car, I hope that you can get them to agree to that. You could also try another "Scotty", get a good pay out and then buy it back and repair with the Insurance money.

As for the incident, I had an identical one coming back from KH last year on the last roundabout coming out of Dundee on the Aberdeen road.

5th gear, sod all speed, went around, on the straight, touched the throttle, back end went around in a 360, skipped over the kerb, and missed a lamp post by inches. Only damage though was a small wheel scrape and a sill chip. The car behind stopped and he could not understand how it had happened right in front of him as he was about to overtake me.

Still no idea why it happened at low torque, when you compare it to on track at much greater speeds.

 Not long after I bought my car (maybe last May/June) I had the tail fly out on me there too. I was turning right so I had the other lane and was barely moving as it was wet.

Actually, last night I almost drove out of a junction at 25mph as my brakes didn't seem to want to slow the car down (it was pretty wet, but the wheels were 100% NOT locked). I was only braking from 30! It *just* managed to stop. Is there a thing about MMCs and lots of water by any chance? :!:

Oh yes  - you'll get used to dabbing the brakes before junctions and the like with MMCs in heavy rain. Really the only main weakness of them for road driving. Worth checking the splash guards on the fronts are there okay as well.

Sorry to see this, glad you're OK though. Such a great car, best of luck getting it sorted :thumbsup

I passed a gritter truck on my way into work today that was spreading dirt on the roads - at an earlier roundabout I'd noticed it being a lot slippier than normal (this was in the Puma), first time I've ever seen that on the road.

Sorry to hear Jamie. Sure it will be good as new, albeit of the road for a month or 2.

Although, point of order, i'm not sure we can let you call it 'doing a scotty' unless it involves driving off a cliff, hitting a deer, hitting german lesbians or rolling it into a ditch.

We'll have to call the rookie mistake of diesel spin 'doing a jamie' though

When I say 'done a Scotty' I refer to his skill as a destroyer of Loti but whatever :D

If they do write it off make sure you ask to buy the salvage back then just fix it with second hand bits. That way you still have your car and an insurance payout.

That was a close one! The final est from MSC came in at front & rear clams and full respray so should be in better condition than when I bought it!
The assessor was decent enough agree with me to the true value of the car. MSC have to sign a contract basically saying it won't go up even if they find something bad (which they won't as they have already )
big thumbs up for Chaucer insurance fast and efficient service
Massive relief now the wait will begin

That great news Jamie
Chaucer were pretty good with mine except that the origional documents, mot etc etc got lost in the post comming back from them ~ just comfirms my thoughts on the Royal Mail and why I pay the extra for special delivery nad chaucier have said the will pay the cost of replacement documents which is fair
