Re: First snow
We went out to eat last night as neither of us could be arsed cooking. Carpark we parked in was solid packed snow/slush. Guess which showoff decided that it had to be left after dinner in a slalom drift stylee? (and no, I didn't bloody hit anything - it was Elaine's car

Bollocks, Verian has reached the B&Q roundabout to take Luke for his driving theory test at 1300, but they have now come to a standstill.
They have not even put a snowplough out on the dual carriageway from Ellon, everybody is crawling along the inside lane, outside lane is virgin snow with no cars on it. I am sure it is drivable at a steady speed but nobody is chancing it.

Re: First snow
Couldn't get into the Elise this morning, so had to pour the luke warm water I'd carried down for the windscreen into the locks and go back upstairs to fill up my jug again. Managed to get in ok after that, and defrost the screen with some more water and get the wipers to clear the excess.
By the time I got to work (5 miles away) the locks, or more specifically the release buttons were frozen on the outside again. Tried to get in at lunchtime to get petrol and it's still frozen. Not sure if pouring in some oil to the locks will help stop the release mechanisms freezing?
Oh and my mirror fell off cos it's so cold. Any recommendations for sticky pads or glue to stick a rear-view mirror back on?
It felt great on the semi-gritted stuff, but the rear was fishtailing slowly all the way along the A77 in the outside lane. I stuck to the inside yesterday, but it was full of trucks this morning.

Re: First snow
theoretically a rear view mirror needs a specific type of adhesive to bond it correctly to the glass, I believe...your local Autoglass might have an idea!
as for frozen locks, not sure what options available although using a meths based de-icer spray will avoid leaving the residual water which has clearly re-frozen

Re: First snow
Good call on the glue, cos it's autoglass who stuck the ridiculously sized mirror back on in the first place when they changed the screen!
Re: First snow
be careful that it is correctly offset towards the pax side as well...it's not actually meant to be fitted bang in the middle of the screen

I know, they slapped it right in the middle before which effectively robbed me of 50% visibility!

Re: First snow
Was out in the elise yesterday, going to glasgow hit a bit of a blizzard (8:30am) but was nothing to worry about with exeption of some of the 4x4's that wizz past you still doing 70 (in a 50)
it did slow as everyone rubberneccked the horsebox that had flipped (I hope the horse if any is ok) coming back the road was alot busier (4:30pm) it took and hour and a 1/2 to get back to kilmarnock made worse by people chopping lanes back and forth into my stopping distance thinking it was going to be faster
after I hit Fenwick it cleared and I was happy wizzing down the outside lane at a barmy 20mph looking at the panicky faces of the people doing 5 mph with the death grip on the steering wheel.
More snow is falling now I may make a snow man tonight

Looks like it may be dumping down on the Erskine Bridge just now.
Some leaden clouds out my window at home too but nothing doing as yet. James has his sledge out in the living room and is watching Ceebeebies from it at present
