Panic buying would equal the opposite of cheapness wouldn't it?pete wrote:Cheapness?Scotty C wrote: "Anyone interested in panic buying a lotus?"

All reviews that I have read so far have been excellent.
Pretty sure that the Top Gear one will be the same, and it should get a good time around the track.

Yep usual Seloc negativity, 2000 doesn't seem too difficult if they can sell more cars in the east. Found this picture from the Malaysian Lotus garage opening, definitely happy I'm going Solar Yellowj2 lot wrote:A link to a thread on SELOC with some reassuring news from DRB-Hicom (and some typically negative comments from some members)

Absolutely, I might be in the minority here, but The last thing I would do if I had an order in for an exige s would be to be worried or think about cancelling.Justin wrote:I think it would actually help resale. Similar to TVR. There are so few anyways, and such a niche car..
Just look at sagaris prices, they rocketed due to limited supplies and even my T350 went up in value substantially in the time I owned it.
Same goes for lotus exige's they must be one of the slowest depreciating cars out there, I even sold mine for more than I bought it for.
Point being if you do take delivery of your exige s and worst case senario lotus go under (which I really hope doesnt happen) and they only produce 50 or so cars then that will be come one very rare and valuable car.

Order is staying put for now, so long as it is going to arrive on time - a lot of speculation that the delivery dates people have been getting will not be met. I'm waiting to see if the first MMC customer cars arrive on time or not.Gooldie wrote:twisted2fit wrote:I'd definitely agree:-) I wouldn't be worried at all:-)

Re: Would this concern you if you were buying a new Lotus?
I've been told that the yellow car at the new Singapore dealer was an Aussie destined car but the new dealership had trumps on it. We haven't got any in Australia yet, that was going to be the first. There are a few people that I know waiting patiently with orders. Time line keeps getting pushed back.
I'm inclined to agree that if the company does fold, I would be happy with a V6 Exige in the garage, they will be rare and hold their value.
That being said Lotus is overpriced(in Australia) for what they are (But all cars are overpriced in Aus compared to here). A top spec Exige was $150k back in 2007/8 when I got mine. I top spec Evora is over $200k now.

Re: Would this concern you if you were buying a new Lotus?
Delivery time is probably key for me at the moment now. I'm trying not to drive the Europa much now to keep the miles down (doing about 300 miles a week just now) on it for re-sale value which means using one car between me and the Mrs for the moment. For the moment this is workable but then she has just got wind that she may be moving location in 4-5 weeks time which means travel everyday for her (work is walking distance at the moment for her) meaning I'll be forced to start using the Europa again so the sooner the Exige comes the better as I can put the Europa up for sale and sold, take delivery of the Exige and get back to being able to use two cars again.krypton wrote:I've been told that the yellow car at the new Singapore dealer was an Aussie destined car but the new dealership had trumps on it. Fair point. I read "panic buying" as "panic selling".SAJ wrote:Panic buying would equal the opposite of cheapness wouldn't it?pete wrote:Cheapness?Scotty C wrote: "Anyone interested in panic buying a lotus?"
It seems to me they are building cars for which a much bigger secondhand market exists than a new market. I don't know why that is but it's the only explanation as to why they depreciate so slowly and yet new cars sell so slowly.
I can't think of anything else that is so accomplished a car (in terms of performance) for the money. I'd have one in a shot. (Although sensible head has decided that the mortgage is more important to pay off first).

Re: Would this concern you if you were buying a new Lotus?
Anyone know the reason why they have taken such a ridiculous amount of time to get Exige V6 production going? It's not like they factory is exactly swamped building other cars since the Evora and Elise sell in such tiny numbers these days. It is all a legacy of the wasted effort that went into the Bahar pipe dream, or perhaps more to do with the fact they owe loads of money to their suppliers?
