Offshore work NLC

Ditto
I've been working in oil and gas for a long time. I count myself lucky as it's a booming industry that pays well and the conditions are great if you're in with the right company.
After 20+ years onshore I now find myself involved with offshore life extension projects, boring it certainly isn't.
To the OP, if you can get offshore go for it, it's a love hate marmite kind if thing, can't knock it till you try it. I used to spend 15 weeks in the Omani desert with 2 weeks at home so 2 on 2 off etc. doesn't sound bad at all.
Hope you find what you're looking for, we need enthusiastic people like yourself, you'll do well if you keep that mind set going.

Let's not anyone make me feel guilty for "the bubble" I'm in. No one handed me a job and I started at the bottom and worked to get to where I am now.

Ross,
The problem with the last place was the minority of Managers that took no responsibility or gave any support. On the whole that company in question have done some good stuff. The new place is just a big machine and things take longer to do which brings out my frustration.

We've now hijacked Phil's thread, apologise.
G, different departments, I don't find this is the case so can't really comment.

And yup, back to Phil, a good articulate attitude will stand you in good stead - wish you luck :thumbsup

Its all gone a bit mental on this thread  however it is good reading for me to get genuine opinions from both sides of the fence.
Luckily I have a couple of good friends that are on rigs, one is a crane operator and the other an electrical engineer so they have been able to give me advice on wether or not I would like/suit the lifestyle.

I attended the Under water centre intro day yesterday for the ROV training which was worthwhile. I think I am going to go ahead with the 7 week course starting this January. Its not an ideal situation having to fork out of my own pocket to get trained but with my background and lack of offshore experience I am not likely to find a company willing to sponsor me anytime soon.
Anyone with a contact in the ROV industry, I would be massively grateful for advice :thumbsup

Thought I would update this thread for anyone interested - currently half way through the course and really enjoying it.
Undoubtedly not worth the money it costs but should I be able to secure a job afterwards it should pay itself off in no time.

So far had great advice and leads from Steve (deepsea gangstarr) thanks again!

One of the machines currently in the workshop right now we are getting ready to go in the drink -

Spotted this was on last week :thumbsup , the underwater centre is taking a stand too.

Problem I have is that it is almost 3.5hrs from fort william to ABZ and its during the week. Going to speak to the course manager to see if its possible to get away for the day, all the big names are there and wont get a better opportunity to meet them all at once.

Had an interview with Fugro yesterday and got a call today offering me a position starting beginning of march. Absolutely buzzing, can't wait to get stuck in!
