Or maybe fit a GoPro to record awesome exhaust flames.

Definitely not. It is just a big lump of a V8 engine with no cats and it really doesn't sound anything special at the moment. Hopefully that will change as the exhaust packing disappears or maybe I will have to get someone to fiddle around with it. Think I will go wash it again. :)

I built one +/-12 years ago ran it at KH a few times and also ventured as far as Cadwell. It was black, but so were at least 3 other Ultimas in Scotland around same time. Ended up selling it to Carlo who sold it on to a guy from somewhere in Fife. Was not the car Carlo ran about in, and I don't think I ever had Miss Scotland in mine either unfortunately........... Was quite entertaining although have to admit a bit rough around the edges (was built by me in a shed so no surprise there.......) Looking back, I probably enjoyed building it more than driving it though.
renmure wrote:Builder / 1st owner was in touch to explain the colour scheme. Apparently it used to be red but he forgot to fasten the catches to secure the rear clam one day and he said it made an effective high speed air brake... until it came off and landed under a lorry :) He said the new clam was never the right shade of red so he had it all professionally painted for the hell of it.
This happened to another one of the black Ultimas at KH on the pit straight and was a pretty scary moment as I recall - didn't see it but read about it on Pistonheads. Seems a common fault, make sure you close the clam properly, maybe extra bonnet pins or fail-safe catches advisable if not already fitted.

This one has both the factory fitted rear clam catches at the side, a big additional central catch and pin, plus a fail-safe mechanism as well... plus a paranoid owner... so I should be ok... hopefully :)

The passenger/girlfriend of the owner was a former Miss Scotland and very easy on the eye :cheers
Wonder if it is the same lassie, Miss Scotland then Miss UK, Vicar's daughter.

If so she could well have sat on mine first.

Haha... you probably saw me slowing down and looking for the 944. I would have stopped had it been there. :)

I only went out for about an hour to take it for a short run and had 4 txts from folk saying they had seen it before I got home.

Ah, it's hidden away in the garage now, I did manage to get it up to Glenshee (originally meant to be Loch Tay, but road closed signs before Dunkeld put me off) later that day, and also finished sewing up the leather on the steering wheel... :blackeye
