I'd love an older 911, albeit I admit the current/recent stuff does nothing for me.

Mik - might PM you about Landie Discos actually - we're looking to replace our Shogun with one, so could be good to get a steer if I get five minutes :thumbsup

compared to what though?

get your arse in a Mclaren then tell me what you think.

for me, that is the benchmark, it's ride quality and handling are just poles apart from anything else out there, it manages to have light and subtle handling, low roll, etc whilst still having the compliance better than a Rolls Royce, it's truly astonishing.

Yes, the Evora's handling is pretty good, but to achieve this they have had to spring it really stiffly and rely really heavily on ARB's etc, try driving down a line of cats eyes and tell me it's not intrusive, do that with the Mclaren and it's dam near imperceptible.
Compared to lots of cars. One of the first things passengers say to me is how amazing the ride is. No chance is the car as stiff as you are implying. It's one car that doesn't get upset by crap quality road surfaces, and that is mainly down to the soft suspension. Most sports cars these days have rock solid suspension, the Evora isn't one of them otherwise it wouldn’t be a daily driver for most.

Also about the cats eye test, drive a 5 series, A6 or E Class over them and they aren't any better.

The Mclaren maybe the benchmark but it is also 100% more to buy and so much more costly to run.

What I love about the Evora is how cheap it is to run on track, £70 for a brake disc compared to say Porsche is 3 or 4 times cheaper and 10 times cheaper that a GTR brake disc. Also the Toyota engine is pretty much bullet proof, same can't be said for Porsche engines - at least from the experience of owners I know. Ok Evora clutch replacement is expensive but getting 43k+ miles out of it before replacement is pretty good in my eyes.

As a previous owner of an Evora I loved the fact that it was a vehicle that you did not see everyday. However the new 911 is getting a lot scarcer.

However thr Evora has a strange problem where if you showed it to the normal non petrolhead in the street, they think its a £100k+ car, however if you show the price tag to a petrolhead they cant believe you paid that much for a Lotus.

Personally if I had the money the would be inclined to put
it somewhere else than the Evora, especially as the 410 rear louvre reminds me of a dodgy aftermarket Ford:

Yep bad example as there is something about a 70's brown ford that you kinda yearn for it :thumbsup

I'd never look past any GT3 (996/997/991) at an Evora. If you haven't driven one you must. Totally different car to the rest of the range.

New Carrera is tremendously quick and an effortless everyday car.

Saw an Evora 400 tonight and it does look way better.

Good dilemma to have, but while I've driven nearly every Porsche on sale I've yet to have a chance to drive the 311 or 400/410.

GT3 is a distant dream for many.

Mean time, I have gratefully lived the dream for 18 mths with our Evora. 6 mths more than I thought I'd get, too!

It rides better than our Octavia vRS - which itself rides well enough actually.

Like Shug, the rear seats matter to us and have been well used. Engine position fine, soundtrack fantastic, ownership costs ridiculously low. £380 for a set of tyres. Works for us. Maybe not others.

Fair enough. I don't give a f*ck. We've had an absolute blast.

Have to say I would go for an Evora over a porker as well and not just because Porsche wont sell you the model you want unless you are a preferred customer.....

I would happily run one as a daily if I could put a roof rack/bikes on it but as yet haven't seen a solution to that one (well short of putting the roof rack on the misses car)

It would have to come without the dodgy plastic lettering above the stereo for me though, in my opinion that is one of the things that doesn't belong on a car with the price tag of the 400/410.

As for the loovered tailgate, horses for courses and all that, I think it works with some colours but not others and is a personal taste thing which you can spec it without (well buy a 400 instead of a 410) but I am a bit of a carbon lover and so I like it

Really? Are you a midget? Shoulder height my arse. The whole car is nowehere near my shoulder height and I'm only 5' 10"
