Yes you did, and thank you very much. I was the portly guy with the goatee beard. But in less you are getting a stenner stairlift fitted I won't be able to get another go for a while.

Then I could mabe get a loan of the lifting gear that Mac is going to have to purchase

What lifting gear? The stuff to get me in and out of the caterham?

came around the corner at a very reasonable pace for the conditions. I was faced with a cyclist climbing the hill on the opposite side of the road, and 2 cars straddling the middle of the road just behind him. So I had the choise of half a road and a banking and possibly rolling the car. Hitting the cyclist on the right, or going straight own the middle. Options weighed, hit breaks a brace for impact.

Results
Broke both bones just above the wrist in left arm, crush injury to L1 in my back and skint left leg.
2 bits of metal, 40 odd staples and lots of drugs to fix above.

Caution from police about possible dangerous driving, or driving without undue care and attention charge should the procurator fiscal wish to prodceed.

Oh, and from a very badly taken photo, an elise that still looks good form the windscreen back.

Good job it wasn't an S1, that's all I can say

That's the unfortunate risk we run for driving "proper" cars - In events like this folk are always going to "buddy" up and blame the sports car driver - mainly out of a sense of jealousy.

Glad your out of the hospital and on the road to recovery. Keith is one of Mandy's friends from the dog circuit, both him and his wife work in Queen Margaret's so once we found out that you were there we asked if either one of you could track you down (after I had a blonde moment and asked for your surname  )

Cheers

Hope you get well soon. One of my friends has metal pins in his legs from a formula ford crash. Only problem he has is at airport security  .

I makes me so angry    to hear they had the cheek to caution you, and report to the proc fiscal. What about the muppets overtaking on the approach to what must be a blind bend???

My thoughts exactly, had they been on their side of the road we would have both passed each other without drama nor incident

Cheers Mags,

Don't need it fixed to quickly, it would take me at least 45 minutes to get in the car at the moment, and then I would have to live there 'cos there's no way I could get out

Glad you're on the mend Stuart. Good to have you back with us online. :thumbsup

Unless I've completely misunderstood what you've described, I really don't understand at all how the police can think you were even remotely at fault in this??? :scratch You came around a bend to find vehicles approaching from the opposite direction straddling onto your side of the road. Surely a simple bit of work from the crash investigation guys can easily prove that they were on the wrong side of the road and they were therefore driving dangerously? How can they possibly blame you when you were on your own side of the road and had to brake to prevent a head-on collision with muppets that were on the wrong side of the road???!!! :? :?

Anyhoo, really glad you are okay(ish) and wish you all the best for a speedy recovery from your injuries.

Yep, i am with Dezzy on this one, surely a simple bit of deduction would point out to them that if as you described the other cars were straddling your side of the road then WTF were you meant to do, bank it and fly into the ditch.

The only thing i can think of is that said drivers, straddling your side of the road have said you took the corner too quickly... of course they would, and it would be interesting to read their statements.

As a cyclist and having done nearly 200 miles on roads which were pretty trecherous (sp!) I am well aware of some drivers lack of patience and saw some pretty dodgy overtaking manouvers (sp!) of me on the road, which saw someone like you left with little or no room, and there were a few sucking of teeth moments that left me wanting to grab said drivers and fcking glue them to my tail for 500 miles to piss them off.

I have to say, being back on a bike on the public roads is a scary thing, and has certainly slowed me down on country roads, something else one of my friends agreed with since passing his bike test!

Anyway, and i say this will all sincerity, it might be worth a chat with gregR as he seems to deal with a lot of these cases.

Cheers, and glad your back on line and well.

Dave

Just remember if you get nailed by the PF for dangerous driving or something similar then its your license and your insurance which takes the hit.

Agree with above.

Louise & I arrived at the scene of an accident a few months ago, where a 20ish year old had lost it in a bend and spun into some trees at over 60mph. Phoned police & ambulance, and tended to him, after I had parked my car before the corner to slow other traffic. When the police arrived, they parked round the blind bend, and put their 'police accident' sign round the blind bend too, so any other cars coming would get no early warning! I politely suggested at least the sign would be better positioned where it might have some effect!

Glad you are OK (don't know you but read the reports with concern...). From what you describe that is dreadful behaviour by the cops.

Good luck in your recovery and the other nonsense.
