The S2 elise & exige share so many similar components - the only real difference between the car is the cosmetics.

If you were to remove the un-used air scoop & fin you would be hard pushed to tell the difference between the two cars.

Without wishing to offend anyone, the S1 exige is a hardcore car for hardcore drivers (cite Uldis as a perfect example) where as the S2 exige is more of a sanitised car - it could be argued that with the roof, air con, ABS etc then it's a "softer" car than the original S2 elise.

Can't argue against any of that and I am sure Lotus themselves are delighted. They managed to make the Exige a more commercially successful model (I would imagine) than it's predecessor.

i said S1 exige. i'd keep my elise as well though. they're v different cars to me. i like being able to take the roof off etc. LOVE the styling of the S1 exige though. i'd take mine with a K in though, as when i've got the money for both, rebuilding Ks wont worry me.

although now i think about it, stuff it, gimme a supercharged honda'd S1 exige. they're the fu*king mutts.......... that noise is unreal........

Oddly enough - when I said the S2 exige was softer..... I was thinking about you :D

I don't own a lotus now and would quite like the S2 exige in the driveway - but it would be because it's easier to live with.

Indeed - and it's a great car, but it's not what the S1 exige was to the S1 and that was my point.

So that's 5 for the kitcars and 23 for standard cars.

s3 for me...reasoning being i love my current car more every day  and there's nothing i would change about her (albeit only had her 6 months). i've never driven a car that handles like her before or since (again limited experience allowing) and if they do bring out an s3 it's got to be "better" somehow, right :?:

...also i have less mechanical knowledge/skills than a shaved monkey and therefore need to go for the "reliable" end of the spectrum

/awaits tidal wave of "try an exige" suggestions

I dont think I would own a lotus if lotus just made the S2 Exige. I think they look fine but its the open top driving that makes owning the elise so much fun for me. The s1 exige is a bit different in that I think they appear like they just wandered off a race-track and look awesome in their own right irrespective of what engine is in them.

Interesting - its good that they do, as I dont think I would own one if they didnt make the s2 exige.

My s1 was fun, but was starting to get a bit "old" mechanics wise, and the 111r / s2 didnt appeal looks-wise coupled with the fact roof-off was of no interest as proven with my s1 hardtop. S2 Exige is perfect mix of out-there looks and reliability. So just goes to show, everyone is different.

i checked the honda'd S1 option as i plan to have my elise for a long time. I would like to save up for the conversion.

you're bang on JJ - everyone is different as they have different backgrounds and circumstances.
I love nothing better than getting into my elise after a sh*t day or at the weekend just because its back to basics and its the old mechanical feeling that appeals to me. I love the S2 (elise and exige), but couldnt see myself buy one unless i had money for both or unless it was a daily commuter.
