Good choice. We have Yoko W drives on the family S-Max (225/40/18) and nothing but praise for them. Bought last winter and performed brilliantly :thumbsup

After carrying my Vredestein Snowtrac 3s about in the boot of the Volvo since the end of October, I finally got around to having them refitted yesterday afternoon. I popped into Hunters of Linlithgow at 4.40pm to find around 15 folk waiting. I explained what I needed and asked if I should come back another time. "No", said the very pleasant lady, "we'll do it now". 40 mins later they were all done.

Well impressed by the organisation in that place.

Woke up to a totally unexpected 6 inches of snow outside this morning  . So today my far cheaper alternative to winter tyres will swing into action :)

Got some Nexus Roadstones for the Clio (mid range winter tyre & only one I could get). However in the slightly warmer weather (above 4C) the rear is a little bit squirmy especially under breaking. The Clio has the cup pack so the rear is set up harder.

I tried to decrease the rear pressures but seems to make it worse, would anyone recommend going harder at the rear to stop this. Kind of makes sense if the lower pressure made it worse.

I guess the hand book does not have any guides on winter tyre pressures? I would usually put more air in the rear tyres to get the rear of the car to move about a bit more  ... is there any advice from the tyre manufactures if the car handbook is no help?

Normally I run winter tyres on the audi at around 32-34psi which is similar to summer tyres. In snowy conditions I'll drop the pressures to 28-30psi.

However I did have a shot of a BMW for a few weeks on (non runflat winter tyres) and no amount of pressure adjustment made any difference. It was an unknown brand of tyres so maybe poorer sidewalls than normal - felt like jelly on th back after a few motorway miles.

If the tyres are new, they may initially seem a bit loose because of the flex in the tread blocks. Obviously this will reduce with wear.

Would it not be safer putting "normal" rubber back on the car if the recommended operating temp of winters is sub 4 degrees? It seems a little upside down to me to buy tyres ostensibly for "safety" and then to run them in arguably unsafe conditions...

Edited to add - budget summer rubber has yet to be outfoxed by the Winter of 2011/12 ...
