I switched back last Sunday, I agree it is nice to have some grip again

As for the stack of tyres, mine holds up my trickle charger, I had to unplug it when I removed the summers from the garage.

I've got 3 sets of Elise wheels, and 2 sets of Mini wheels hanging around, a stack of VW winters isn't going to be noticed

Maybe I should sell some wheels.. :s

I was thinking of starting a thread... "Summer tyres. Discuss."

I'm sure everyone that had the foresight and safety-savy to fit them will enjoy the tower of winters replacing the tower of summers somewhere on their property for the next six months .. only to wish they still had them fitted for periods during May, June, July, August and September

Greg, I think even Skoda dealers are offering a tyre "bed n breakfast" service between the seasons now! No need to have those pesky VW spare rims littering ones garden...

Mine will be getting changed this weekend. I wouldn't say that I noticed a significant loss of grip but with all the Quattro gadgetry there is a lot of stuff making sure you don't spin wheels.

I didn't see much snow, but it was reassuring to have them on for all the frosty mornings. They were fitted in early November, they've done about 4500miles and gone from 7mm down to 5mm, so should be good for another season (which would be their 4th winter).

Ok fair point, and with the TC off it managed surprisingly well

The mighty Micra did well on the 2 foot deep drifts we had here with a total lack of mechanical sympathy full throttle in 2nd battering through drifts hoping i didn't get stuck as i really could be arced to walk back and start up the mog

Winter cometh again...

Looking at winter wheels and tyres for Nicola's Golf (mk 6 GTi Ed 35).
VW will do a set of Silver 'Mirabel' alloys with 205/50/R17 Pirelli snow tyres for £1215.

I had a quick squizz through ebay but nothing jumping out. Lots of replica wheels.

Ideally black or dark alloys would suit the car better, 18s don't seem much more expensive than 17s for snow tyres...and a bit closer style wise to the 19" 'Glendale' diamond cut pimp rims it's currently running.

Anyone with contacts suggest other places to try? I was going to give Turriff Tyres a shout (my bro got a nice set of winters for his M3 there).

I have a set of bbs 18" Audi a4 wheels I was going to punt if that is of interest. I think it's thr same fit 112pcdx5 et 43 Would take a 225 or 235 tyre 8".

I usually buy vredstein online and get motorwerk to fit. There are also lots of lightly used sets for sale just now.
