Now just to get tyres ordered...
370z was fun in the snow today...albeit a bit slow.

Overheard the staff at my local Farmers Autocare telling a customer it would be ok just to put 2 winter tyres on the front of his car

Even when buying 2 new summer tyres on a front wheel drive car they should go on the rear. Hate to think what's going to happen when he's cornering in snow/slush with front end grip when all of a sudden the back end lets go !!

The Beemer is getting some winter tyres on it on Tuesday. It needed 2 so I am replacing all 4 while it's in for an MOT and service.

A guy at work here has just done the same, two brand new winter Conti's on the front of his A6 and two well worn Pirelli's (not winter) on the rear.
I did my best to convince him that he needs to put two winters on the rear too but he won't have it

I'd be avoiding a lift home from him, a true recipe for disaster

Ali I have these on my Audi, they are pretty good you won't be disappointed, but I have found the ContiWinter Contact T830P are a better tyre in all areas. I have the Contis on my Europa and on my brothers Elise.

tbh... that's what I did last year in the golf and it was great in the snow... even with me driving like a c*ck to see how good the winters were.
Recipe for disaster may be a slight exaggeration...

I hope so, will post my review when they are on.
I guess looking from the online reviews it's important to consider the application, some brands are better than others in different sizes/profiles.
For the specific tyre size the Dunlops are supposedly better than the Conti's in the wet and much better in snow.

I'd expect both to be very good though and miles better than you're budget Nankangs etc.

Don't say that!

My wife's Impreza has been running a set of Nankangs for the last 2 years and they have been fine!
Currently trying to decide what to buy for my Legacy, Nankang SV-2s for £75 each, Falken HS-439s for £105 each or a 'premium' brand for £130-150 each.
I know I should spend the money on some premium rubber but given that it's not a performance car and won't be driven hard I'm not convinced it's going to make a huge difference.
In theory anything winter specific should be better than the summer tyres..............

Agreed.
The difference with summer tyres between premium and budget is huge, especially their wet performance.
With winters, the gap is far far smaller

I got some hancook winters on the BMW today and it's ruined it. I have lots of grip. Where the 5 year old bald types had none and the car slid everywhere that was fun
