Well I guess we needed *summat* to jazz things up around here!

It's all about perspectives and perceptions.

It's really easy for all of us to justify an action in our own terms when challenged by someone else - Police or otherwise. But if we can climb off our righteous horse for a second, and truly look at the situation from that other's perspective, it's amazing what we can see.

j33, your several tugs have got to be telling you something. Not necessarily that you are doing anything particularly heinous, but simply that you *are* attracting attention. I've been pulled over by random checks, and once for a talking to by plod for crossing a roundabout "rather quickly sir" when I was a young whippersnapper in my groovy wee Nova SRi. The point is to consider why, then build the answer into your learning and experience, and carry on contributing *positively* to our beautiful little society ;-)

The Police are under a lot of pressure to make examples of people now, and to be seen to be doing stuff about whatever the Government decides to be the latest blight on society. Not your fault that they pick easy targets like the motorist, instead of violent criminals or idle youfs chucking bricks through my family's car windscreen from a flyover. C'est la vie.

Anyhoo, any nice car - not least a bright orange Exige driven with spirit by a young-looking driver - is better exercised on quiet, well-engineered roads well away from built up areas. If you fancy revving the nackers off something in town, buy a 1 litre Corsa, cos they NEED their nackers revved off em to get anywhere at all :-)

cheers

j33ama - I am surprised by how much of a hard time you have been given on this thread...

If I am completely honest I pull away from lights pretty quickly in our Liz but always make a conscious effort to stay below or at 30. I am constantly surprised by the amount of people that you leave standing at the lights who then cruise past you at 35/40 a min or so later...and you know that they are in cars that can't stop as quickly as yours and most of the time you can also see that they are not driving with particular attention...

It sounds to me like you are being given a hard time by the local coppers and it would probably just be best to ride this out and be as inconspicuous as possible in the future. Can't see why you would lose your license for what you have described above - at worst a ticking off, fine and 3 more points? but then I have no legal basis for that - just guessing!

true, back to OP - i am pretty sure that ur ok with regards anything else coming from it.
probably the policeman just got u thinking on purpose.
u have taken a beating here, and i almost cringed to turn to read page 5 ;-)

when u said high street, or whatever it was, i pictured a street with lots of parked cars, etc.

neways, am i jealous of ur orange exige? ya bet!
guess alot of peeps here are giving advice that u may already know.
id deffo lie low with regards enjoying ur car in populated areas. too easy to get mis-convicted at a later date when u would probably have received a warning then instead.

again, lol, im telling my granny how to suck eggs :P

ill shut up and go to bed! probably best!!

A loud exhaust can put even the most sensitively driven car in a bad light I'm afraid. I agree with Phraze, the "off the mark" ability of an Elise is exquisite and seems quite effortless a lot of the time. But unless you are in a sewing-machine-style standard version, you are definitely going to draw attention.

Young guy( look quite young for my age also ) driving flash bright orange car , obviously Id expect to be checked out , but not for 3 random checks!!

Perhaps you wouldnt have this problem being an older ( I presume ) driver, with flash/unusual car .
They get away with flash cars being old
I wouldnt be that sure

You're all turning into Nannies! :whip

Our society is becoming to be a very complex thing. It's based on "what if's" all day long.
"What if a kit would have jumped in front of your car?"
"What if there was diesel on the road that made you spin?"
"What if ..."
etc.

Fact is.. It didn't happen..

A car which produces noise may be stopped if it's producing too much noise, but apart from that, it's just that: a car which produces noise.

A car which looks like a fast car doesn't go fast all the time.

If someone pulls away with a fast looking noisy car, it doesn't mean the car IS actually driving fast. It may look or sound fast, but it doesn't need to be fast.

In fact, I've had a lenghty discussion with a judge about this and was actually able to convince the good man.
I told him that I was always driving my fast looking noisy car in first gear in built up areas as the kids who were playing could actually HEAR me coming. As in.. "uh uh.. danger approaching". The kids won't be stopped, but at least they have a reason to stop.

This sounds to me like a "we'll teach that boy how to behave" kind of thing. Grown ups call that harrasment.

In this case, I would go to the police station and ask for a quiet chat with the principal officer. In that chat, show that you're a responsible person who doesn't understand why you're being stopped by his man. Kindly explain to him that stopping you all the time could be explained in a different way, which could get him in trouble.
As long as you keep the tone down and try to be reasonable, he will understand that you're done with this game and are willing to take further steps to stop them.

you may just look shifty ;)

I have been stopped 3 times when driving

1st time they drove into me bending my car in half.
2nd time I got a £30 fine for driving with my front fogs on.
3rd for doing 73 on the M77

not bad seeing as my driving is "ledgendary"

I'm now sober

Have just re-read this thread, and I wouldn't change anything I said.

Everyone on here is a fast car owner/enthusiast, and enjoys "making progress" as it were, and I include myself in this category, as many here wouldn't disagree :D

It's more a case of "right place, right time" - and any urban 30 zone is never right for tomfoolery. I see your point ref the noisy car theory, but if that was deemed an additional safety factor, we'd all have beepers/honkers/sirens fitted and you know that's not gonna work

Skyenet still got the point over best :thumbsup

Anyway post is getting rather tidious now , I have choose to ignore a large part of the advice i have received , I learnt most of it in my driving test  , I am not the typical boyracer you see nailing it everywere , i dont drive a sh*t car i dont need to nail the sh*t out of it . I asked ppls opinions on what the possible outcome could be of the situation . For the few post that have gave advice relating to that ...Thanks !

I am relativly young and guessed that some of the older "more experianced " drivers perhaps had been in a similar position.

For the rest , this a sports car enthuisiasts website not the DVLA homepage

Is it too late to point out that flooring it and booting it between the lights from George Sq up St Vincent Street on a busy Saturday afternoon, when there's a fair chance some idiot will step off the curb at any given moment, isn't the best idea in the world????

I'm not going to lecture you, but maybe take on board the good advice that campbell posted
