Very sad.

One of the first people I met from SE at Crail. Washy was trying to teach him left foot braking. Great entertainment for everyone watching and for the post lesson debrief in the pub. A very memorable gent.

The first person I met in SE was Tut and the second was Brian.

He took me out on KH in his S1 and reignited the bug that I thought I had left behind in '87 when I gave up racing.

A really charming man with a fantastic sense of humour.

I have never met Brian but it is still so sad to hear a member of SE has passed away. Cancer is a brutal illness and it seems like the people who have it are those that don't deserve it. It's not fair.

Rest In Peace Brian. My thoughts are with your family, friends and everyone who knew you.

Like many on here stunned to hear the news, Brian was as stated many times a true gent, and always had time to chat both at KH and at karting events.

Always a keen karter he has been to many of the SE and GUMSC nights at Xtreme and shown many of the younger ones how it should be done!

Thoughts to his family, he will be missed.

I remember admiring his Jag at a Karting event a while ago and always saw him around the pits at Knockhill usually smiling.

Condolences to those close to him.

Having read through the above messages, I feel cheated that I did not have the opportunity to meet this gentle man.

His undoubteded qualities, and the affection that so many hold for him, are reflected brightly. A charming, elegant, cultured, happy, smiling man with time for all of his fellow enthusiasts, who has left a wealth of cherished memories.

May I add my condolences, and hope that family and friends derive some comfort from the fact that he influenced, and was admired by so many. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Absolutely shocked to say the least.

Brian was a great guy always very friendly and always happy. My fondness memories are from the SE dinner last year where myself and Lynda sat across from Brian and Linda, it was a great night and what a laugh with the 2 Lynda's getting more and more drunk.

RIP Brian

I think as everyone has said already, the best words to describe Brian were 'a true gentleman' Always introduced himself at KH, a smooth and quick driver, but never big headed or boastful.

I do remember having a great chat with him about wine, and realised I was far far out of my depth and apologised! He laughed!

A great guy, and a great loss.

Have just heard the news, very sad. The word Gent is used so much in the condolences and is very fitting, he was a very amiable guy and always took time to chat, there will definately be a void left at future trackdays in his absence.

My thoughts are with his family.

As regards to flowers or Charity donations for the funeral, Linda has come up with a brilliant idea as there will be flowers galore and she would like any donations kept within S_E in memory of Brian.

What she has suggested is that we set up a fund and buy a cup that would be awarded to someone at KH for a category that we would decide ourselves. She suggested something along the lines of best dressed driver for starters, as Brian used to turn up immaculately dressed from work many times, anything so as not to miss a trackday. We could do this for each KH meet and a special one for tt 2010, and change the theme each time so that it was passed around. Depending on the amount raised we could award a prize as well, and drink to him in June with champagne which was one of his favourites. He sent me a case of Magnums before tt 2005, typically Brian, but alas they have all gone.

I would think everyone will be happy with her idea, but I would be grateful if someone with more know how than me could arrange the best method for sending donations. I think something along the lines of the Amp3 Charity day would be best using PayPal or similar. Dom just pm'd me and offered to arrange flowers or Charity along with Shug, so perhaps the two of you could handle that side for me as you probably have the experience.

I have a couple of more posts to put up regarding the funeral and Brian's Exige.

Superb idea.

I also wondered if we should have somewhere where these threads go so that they don't fall off the bottom of page twenty-something, as a mark of respect (I know this is a sticky at the moment, but not forever). A section of its own that will hopefully have very few threads in it ..

colin adams wrote:Gang, I just got this following on the funeral arrangements from a contact in Scottish Enterprise

"Just to let you know that Brian's funeral service will take place on Tuesday 23 February at Hyndland Parish Church, 81 Hyndland Road, Glasgow, G12 9JE. It will be followed by a private cremation.

We have been advised that the service will start at 10.00 . There is a slight chance the time may change ."

Brian was one of the really good guys, will be missed

Colin has posted the funeral arrangements, and Linda would really like any of Brian's S_E friends that could make it to come along to the Church Service.
