The lobbying seems to be building from the airlines, and increasing numbers of "successful" test flight results appear to be being returned over Germany, Holland, UK, near-atlantic etc.

I am 110% confident that no airspace authority OR airline will permit/relaunch services if there is the slightest safety threat, so Monday could prove an interesting day of developments politically. The EU Transport Commissioner has waded in, the Kenyan flower-growers and Brazilian fruit-producers are all getting pretty narked, and there are crates of fresh Scottish Salmon starting to smell a bit in the holding fridges at LHR Cargo

The "no flights until XXXX hrs" deadline is now rolling perilously close to our EDI departure (1000 Weds), so I am starting to think up contingency holiday plans. We really need our break. It's a bit too nippy for camping yet but a Forest Holidays cabin in Yorkshire might beckon if I can get a late, no-obligation booking for a few days :thumbsup

Thanks Paul, do you think it can make it all the way to Orlando though?!

Presumably the eurotunnel is booked out? What about DFS to Amsterdam?

Campbell, if your flight is on, but not the connection from up here, you could always drive down, leave the car in the long term at LHR or LGW? You would need to commit to that at last minute, so might mean an 02:00 departure and a blitz down the M6 ...

Or, how about booking a narrow boat instead - the yards were pretty full when we went a week or so back - weather was spectacular! Depending on how flexible you can be with the dates, I'm pretty sure you would be able to get something from most of the yards, though the rental is not usually starting on a Wednesday, hence you might need to start a couple of days later and finish a couple of days later - keeps your cash in the UK economy too ;-)

Cheers,
Robin

Very much on the agenda. As you say, will be a last-minute judgement call, but our bags are mostly packed and will be finalised tonight so we are certainly flight of foot!

Preference would of course be to finish work a day early (ie tonight) and cruise down the m-way during tomorrow, rather than an all-nighter...because the impact of the jet lag on top of that would mean we could be pretty wrecked by the time we get to Orlando - but of course better that than not at all, I agree :-)

I am just really watching the hand of the cancellation clock sweep round towards Wednesday, and with the latest ban extension now at 0100 Tuesday, I'm losing hope rapidly even for the transatlantic leg. But at the same time I think there could be some interesting statements out of the meetings being held by the great and the good today.

I would have guessed that X-atlantic flights could well be one of the first to be re-enabled if any partial lifting of ban were to occur. We're going to try to visit Edin airport today, since the BA ticket desk people surely have very little to do there now!

Paul, the Crieff idea is a good one and a very kind one thank you. Although we are one step ahead I think...have got a hold on one of our fave Cabins at the Forestry Commission site at Cropton, North Yorkshire, from Wednesday to Monday. Call it a consolation prize!

We shall see...pretty distracted today, I have to say!

Campbell,
gutted for you and the kids. Unbelievable thing to happen that a volcano can cause so much chaos. We have had guys on the rig that were due of last Thursday who are still waiting to see what is happening, some with 32days on now!!. So your not alone.

Mike,

Appreciate the thoughts.

I am VERY aware that there are people in far, far worse scenarios than ours. At least we are only stranded at home :thumbsup

I do feel big style for the rig teams and other people displaced with dwindling funds, lack of information, etc etc. Just a nightmare. I can only imagine how we would be coping if it was us and the kids stranded at Orlando waiting to come home. Ah hang on a moment, we'd be at a Water Park somewhere, frying the Credit Card, having a ball ;-)

Thoughts are with everyone who is under pressure with this.

The In-laws are stuck in Beijing, were supposed to be home last Thursday but have no idea when they will be home.

My brother is golfing in Turkey and supposed to be home on Wednesday- not sure that will happen so it's looking likely he will miss the stag do we have at the weekend, as will the best man who is stuck in Antigua.

What a pain in the arse all of this is :x

Hello Clarkie!! Say hi to Sea World from us :-(

That's a nice gesture to give free access to those parks. I see Disney hasn't yet stepped up to the plate though ;-)

So sorry to hear you can't get back to work...
