Grand Designs returns....
Re: Grand Designs returns....
Liked this weeks house. - no Eco nonsense. Just a decent house built to a normal budget. Her furniture let it down for me and you just know it is going to end up full of clutter after a couple of months. I liked the underground garage too.

Re: Grand Designs returns....
I liked it up until it was finished.
Hated the brick - would have rendered it.
Bathrooms looked like hospitals
Kitchen was nice
Bedrooms were dull
I was really disapointed with the interiors as that was her thing.
And no TV, hubby just had the fire to look at while his misses reads
Kevin had a bit of a thing for her, suprised she wasn't preggers

Dont blame him, there was something very attractive about her. First time in a while I've really liked a gd house, The brick added texture to the out side, render would have made the building look plainer I think. kitchen living area worked well, Underground garage was nice with the stairs to/from the garden but the entrance didn't look high enough to get anything more than your average saloon in.
Re: Grand Designs returns....
I am astounded that it was built to budget (just below) at £275k.
The builders must have been from Cambodia?

Re: Grand Designs returns....
Bit minimalist and boxy for me, the kitchen reminded me of my old primary school but i thought it was all very well done. The garage area was excellent, nice low entry perfert for letting Loti in and keeping nasty people carriers out. Thought the barbeque/outdoor fire area was quite cool.
She did come across as very likeable, possibly because she hadn't disappeared up her own bottom on another eco-pretentious ego trip.
Also liked the Engineers comments at the start the only time 'eco' was mentioned when he said it was eco-friendly because it was made from materials that would last for hundreds of years with minimum maintenance. Smart guys dem injuneres.

Re: Grand Designs returns....
Loved that. Would quite happily move into that tomorrow - furniture and everything.
I had a creeping fear when it was announced she was an interior designer (no offence jj, not a slight on your business, just some of the monkeys in it) But when she came up with a pile of classic and used furniture so it didn't look perfect, that's when I thought "I could actually marry this lass"
I think I caught a glimpse of a projector nestled in the roof in the living room - may have been wrong.
Best one this series - helped by the fact that she clearly had her head screwed on, worked like a trooper and deserved a nice house, whereas some of the others have just been misguided tools...

Re: Grand Designs returns....
both her and the house were very pleasing to the eye. Loved it right up until she filled it full of old crap. I'm guessing the plot was 'free' from her mum, so probably helped keep it down to 275k, instead of 400 odd. Also liked the garage. I want an underground garage, preferably with a batman style/firemans pole to access it

Re: Grand Designs returns....
The man speaketh sense here, the plot usually increases their spend by 50%, but fair play she did bring it under budget, and she came across very calm, and not too bad on the eye. Think her man had very little to add!mckeann wrote:I'm guessing the plot was 'free' from her mum, so probably helped keep it down to 275k, instead of 400 odd.

i would love to build/live in something like that, although it would need more insulating up here.

Wasn't 100% on the squares of carpet upstairs, but loved the overall execution and you had to be humbled by the guy's determination and passion.
Here's hoping his business does well
