It'd be good to hear what you think of the 888s. - I was a bit tempted, but i figured that on the road i was never really going to get them up to temperature (with them warming up slow cos of the big blocks), so wouldn't really benefit from them properly, even in the summer.
- I've heard the 888s last better than the 48s as well, could be good! - i really couldn't stomach £600 every 5000 miles!
let us know how you get on!

Al, don't pay attention - there's no reason to put track tyres on a road car. Certainly not for looks! If you track the car and are getting to the point that you're getting frustrated with the grip level (which will take a long time) then go for track tyres. Otherwise, what you've got on will do just fine....dr al wrote:It'd be good to hear what you think of the 888s. - I was a bit tempted, but i figured that on the road i was never really going to get them up to temperature (with them warming up slow cos of the big blocks), so wouldn't really benefit from them properly, even in the summer.

People who pick tyres 'cos they 'look nice' deserve slung in the nearest hedge during the first downpour (which is, funnily enough, what tends to happen...)

I am going to go with "something else" for the winter when the weather starts to turn other than the 48`s, as I dont fancy doing 3 or 4k miles constantly thinking about standing water.
I am driving to the south of france for new year and would generally feel safer with just a normal road tyre on for that period, then switch back to 48s when spring comes round and the trackdays start up again.
Seems sensible to me.

I'd wholeheartedly agree... AD07s or something (if you can get em in Exige sizes)jke11y wrote:I am going to go with "something else" for the winter when the weather starts to turn other than the 48`s, as I dont fancy doing 3 or 4k miles constantly thinking about standing water.

I'll point out here that I drive on Maxsports all year long, but I'm a tube

I know it would probably be OK as if its wet then fine, but the thought of french motorways with their pishy wet surfaces and standing water and the fact that I will have my gf with me and would raterh be safe seems to make sense.
I didnt like the T1RS I put on my s1, but I only did 800miles - they felt really squirmy like the tread blocks were 2 inches deep. That may go away with more miles, but if anyone has recommendations as to what works on exige size rims im all ears.

The Maxies are borderline suicidal in standing water - have shat myself badly on several occasions this summer when we've had the beeeeg thunder showers. M77, just under the Mearns turnoff, has a nice wide river when it's really humping it down and I aquaplaned for about 150yds, across 2 carriageways at one stage...jke11y wrote:I know it would probably be OK as if its wet then fine, but the thought of french motorways with their pishy wet surfaces and standing water and the fact that I will have my gf with me and would raterh be safe seems to make sense.

Silly

FWIW, the R888s I used a year or so ago were much better in standing water - the minimal channels seem to have an effect, but I'd still advise a proper road tyre in monsoon conditions....

i must admit the T1Rs suit my driving level very well. - i enjoy a little bit of squeal and slippage when punting it in the dry, and I drive like a pussy in the wet, so no probs!
I'm not just 100% in love with the toyos, though, I miss the crazy-good amount of steering feedback i used to have with the bridgestones, but I don't want to go back to them, cos i'd really miss the extra braking grip i've got now (not to mention the reduction in understeer!). d'ya reckon we could press-gang BFG into making g-force profilers in 195/50/16???
but seriously, anyone else got any good road tyre alternatives in exige sizes??
