What Porsche for sub 30k?
Re: What Porsche for sub 30k?
My bro has been looking at Boxsters but was put off by servicing/running costs. How would the running costs of a Boxster/Cayman compare to the Elise/Exige? From his tentative research oil change services were around £600, main service £1100?

Re: What Porsche for sub 30k?
Service prices are all fixed and on the Porsche dealer websites. For a cayman it's about £500 minor and just over £600 for a major. Also remember that's 2 years or 20k so basic servicing (without any additional work) for 10k miles a year is less than an Elise or Exige.Clarkie wrote:My bro has been looking at Boxsters but was put off by servicing/running costs. In my experience they are also happy to haggle on the "fixed" servicing costs, should be quite easy to get £100 off the official prices.simon wrote:Service prices are all fixed and on the Porsche dealer websites. But I'd always recommend a good Indi such as Motortune in Shotts. If you think BMW 3 series running costs then you shouldn't be far off the mark

The Service costs for Porsche are different all over the country, despite their fixed price statement. Probably more so down South where there is more competition for business!!
They are obviously higher than most Marquee's to service, but having 24 month intervals its not as bad as it looks. However, they are still damm more expensive to run than an Elise/Exige, by quite a margin!!
But the guys that drive them, will say its worth every penny! which i am sure it is.

The wife's boxster was very cheap to service, fuel (987 3.2s) wasn't to great. Depends on how you use it though as brakes etc are way more expensive!
Dave-I'd look at a Cayman S. tried the 996&997 Carreras & S and wasn't that impressed.

Last minor service on my 987 S 3.2 at opc edinburgh was £370.
Great car however having watched a colleagues 2009 997S go bang in a big way (£10K Fix) I knew it was time to let it go. THESE ENGINES DO GO BANG BE WARNED!!
