I got one somewhere too, with loads of games. Must dig it out...ah, the joys of "r tape loading error" and other stuff you young'uns wouldn't understand
Back on-topic I had a corgi lotus esprit when I was seven, towing the '74 F1 car, all in JPS livery. I remember my dad saying "if you stick in at school you could have a Lotus one day". Naturally I completely ignored this advice, but from then on in my tiny mind Lotus was synonomous with exotic, fast and good looking. Just like me. Ahem.

I've still got a rubber key Spectrum up in the loft, in its original box...Works perfectly too...
Wasn't my first ZX product - I had a ZX81 when I was 7 or 8...Saved up my pocket money for aaaaaages to buy it (£40 in 1983!!) - Then found you couldn't play 3D Grand Prix / 3D Monster Maze on it unless you forked out for the 16k RAM pack...(
!!!)
Folks took pity and bought me one for Xmas...Saved me from early onset RSI from typing in 20 pages of BASIC code found in various magazines, to program a duff game which was erased when you switched the machine off...
Think the above died (along with a ZX80 somebody gave me) when I decided to take them apart to see how they worked...
/topic slide
Not sure what attracted me to the Lotus brand...Got my first proper job in 1999, and had been a fan of Italian cars up until then...
Seen an Elan in the flesh, and decided to test drive one - What a buzz for a 22 year old who'd only driven his folks 1.6 Cavalier...
Bought one from a place next to Bell & Colvill, and drove it back up...Met this lot via it, and developed some sort of strange brand loyalty...Had 3 Lotus' now (4 if you include the Caterham 7)...
Having flirted with Subarus / 997's, I can't see myself changing from my current Elise for a very long time indeed...They really are *that* good...

Post bond one of my Dads mates bought a Espirit and came round in it. This was back in the day where a flash car on your driveway sparked the neighbours to come round to talk about it. (Rare in Bearsden)
Hmmm really should look him up and take him for a spin to thank him for the introduction.

I first saw an Elise in Village Garage sometime in 98 I think when me and a couple of mates popped in as one of them knew the owner/manager. Had a wander round and checked out the Esprits and ignored the Skodas! Chatted to the Lotus sales guy for a while and came away with a Lotus brochure/magazine that I have lying around somewhere.
Forgot all about it until a few years later when my mate bought a standard S1 and took me out. First time in the car and it was one of those dry but freezing cold winter days so it was roof off the whole time, absolutely loved it
In 2003, decided that in early 2004 we would buy one if we liked it so went and test drove one at Town & County in ABZ. Loved driving it, almost got wiped out though on the test drive by some nutter who didn't stop at a junction!
Went back in March 2004 and after the salesman mumbled something about everyone testing them there but buying in Edinburgh, I did exactly the same

For me it was because I wanted a car I would enjoy getting into, couldnt really afford the new 5 series sport I had my eye on, didnt want a slow BM. No other 2 seater sport car ('cept TVR's probably) looked like a mans car. Went for a test drive and that was it really. The Elise was an obvious choice.
Ps I also have a working Speccy plus in the loft, complete with tapes. Remember Load Print Print (J"") then press play. Fantastic.

I had a Lotus Esprit Turbo and went to an Elise track night at KH I remember I was first on the track followed by a swarm of elises I spent all my time letting them past so I thought if you can't beat them then I might as well join them.

Yup, I don't think Esprit Challenge was ever out for the C64.
