Winter tyres. Discuss.

Decided to take the S3 to work this morning shod with Yokohama W Drive winter tyres, epic seems a suitable word. Perfect blend of pace, comfort, practicality and all weather grip.

Just tried to drive my mates 318d on summers up my street and failed. Sometimes I take the winters for granted on my bmw, they really are worth the money IMO.

Biggest difference is the stopping.

Well had the first proper thick snow run and the Volvo just ate the snowy conditions.

Hellishly smug feeling washed over me, but you really are at the mercy of folks not equipped or lacking in talent, todays most noteable was a woman in a Nissan Juke who was flummoxed on a very slight incline on a bus route

Nanking sv2 winters have performed very well in Rwd and fwd cars I have used. Cheap too

Me too 3 people who had previously stated that my winter tyres were a waste of money had some problem today, 2 got stuck and 1 is in Hospital after stuffing his car. He'll be fine.

Got these on Ellie's BMW. Got a puncture on nsr on Friday and replacement didn't arrive till lunchtime today. This morning was a hoot on one summer and one winter! Amazing the difference once the new winter was put on. Great value at £61 a corner too.
Was an interesting situation though. Clearly I wouldn't normally mix tyres, especially in the winter weather but I wonder what the insurance situation would have been? Can't have been any worse (or maybe even better) than a space saver for a couple of days?

Today I took the BMW with its Nokians rather than the Discovery. No problems, more fun and less fuel.

The M3 has been fantastic so far on the vredistien wintrac extremes!

we did a massive trip at the weekend including applecorss in the snow, the car was great, good balance of fun and grip when needed!

A smiggen of snow this morning, and I drove to work at my normal pace. Braking is superb, the car oversteers slighly and you can light up the rear (you can do both in the dry) It was the braking I found the most impressive.

For the guys at work who are not on winter tyres 5 were late and 1 ended up in a ditch.

My neighbour was trying his best to get his X5 up the hill this morning, failing badly when I passed him.

I reckon the fact I stopped on the hill to ask him if he was OK then drove off up the hill without any wheelspin might've ruined his morning
