Independence SE Poll
Re: Independence SE Poll
One thing I don't doubt is his tenacity to push what Westminster has promised.
That'll get my vote.
That'll get my vote.

Certainly explains why NO voters were nigh on impossible to find around the city.

Re: Independence SE Poll
Just watched Davie C's speech.
He's certainly promising to honour all that's been promised. Over to you, Ecky...

Likewise. My heart was in independence but my head wasn't.graeme wrote:More relieved than happy. Strange feeling.

Sad at an opportunity missed in a way but relieved that the prospect of economic turmoil for the most part is avoided. Head won over the heart too.

Re: Independence SE Poll
time will tell. We may finally get an answer to the west lothian question (no way labour will vote for english votes for english mp's)scott_e wrote:I dont think so TBH , I think this mean big change too.BiggestNizzy wrote: the same old....
Lot's of chat going on this morning but I expect that to die down then any changes will be watered down to get them through the house of lords (how that is still there in the 21st century I will never understand) I see the vote as a thumbs up for the status quo.
Although the Quo are mighty.

Re: Independence SE Poll
A big success story to take away from this referendum has to be the turnout. I don't understand why in a digital age we don't allow remote voting via web application / mobile phones etc. Surely that would increase turnout for all elections in future.
Re: Independence SE Poll
The house of lords is not the issue - it is the fact that it is not elected - that will have to change.
On the subject of digital voting, clearly it will increase turnout, but today's vote shows that if you give them something to vote about, they will vote even if it means walking to to the polling station. We have postal voting which is trivial to apply for and trivial to do. You have to be very lazy or just not interested to not vote in any election/referendum.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: Independence SE Poll
I think that is a bit of a sweeping generalisation to be honest sorry Robin. Everyone should utilise there right to vote of course but there are a host of reasons this can be difficult and time consuming for people. The easier you make it the more you negate reasons not to mark that box and we move even closer to a democratic decision. Politics are not exactly known for motivating the electorate to vote in every election.robin wrote: You have to be very lazy or just not interested to not vote in any election/referendum. Robin
