Food for thought... SE top shed challenge
Re: Food for thought... SE top gear challenge
I will be speaking to dom later, and believe i am to be one of the judges,
The times, i believe shall not be published on the site, i (and who ever else ends up a judge) will keep a copy of the times off the internet, they can be mentioned in person between drivers and judges and the likes, but not on the internet.
the times will also/more than likely be announced at the amp3 trackday with the summary of event winners and overall winner.
Once i speak to dom later, we should have the rules and everything else set out.

It's wrong morally and you also risk being excluded from future events, as well as the organiser getting into a whole pile of trouble too. I suspect KH would even have a problem with counting the number of laps completed on a track day ...
I have only driven Kames once - it was timed - I don't have any sort of competition license, so I presume it's possible to use Kames for such an event?
Robin, the issue is not whether the day is timed, but whether the times are published.
That may be the case for Kames, where you hire the track yourself, but its not the case on a normal trackday, which is what Robin is talking about ( i think )
No timing is allowed on normal trackdays. Obviously you could record a lap on video, or use a datalogger and there is nothing to stop you getting a time off of it at a later date. I'm pretty sure trackdays arent allowed to even be competitive, so number of laps wouldnt be allowed either.
Basically, use Kames if its allowed there, or hire crail.

Re: Food for thought... SE top gear challenge
Sorry about that Neil, I would just have to take the chance of being dragged down by the other team members.

How do we go about putting ourselves into teams ?
Im loving the fact everyone is thinking about who the best driver is , I have a sneaky feeling this wont really matter on the day

Re: Food for thought... SE top gear challenge
As F1 constantly proves, its not really about the driver, its about the engineering. Thats why i want to be on a team with Robin, FD and Simon ironsidecloggie wrote:How do we go about putting ourselves into teams ?

Re: Food for thought... SE top gear challenge
I have a few phone calls to make, and a few things to establish / sort out.. then I'll post up in the motorsport sections a couple of polls on some areas that will require decisions.

Yep, no dispute about those three, but Craig is pretty formidable.

This sounds great! Room for me in the Team Weegie Scumbags? I instantly think 'Sponsored by/powered by Buckfast stickers' would be so cool.
Re: Food for thought... SE top gear challenge
Well my brother Alistair seems to be getting excited about a West Lothian entry. I'm not sure if I can commit just yet, but this might be enough to tip him into subscribing here...especially after his proper taste of Elise antics at Donnie recently!

Re: Food for thought... SE top gear challenge
I have been doing some research into things, and checking out available events etc. So, I am now trying to pull together a callendar of events and some rules.
I have taken all the feedback and suggestions and tried to come up with a decent plan. A few folk have suggested doing the event all in one weekend. However, that would require a lot of organisation, it would be far easier to use existing events, and simply enter them. There will need to be a fair bit of organisation as it is, so with a view to keeping things simple, and legal, I am working on the following proposal. The dates are never going to suit everyone, but by spreading the 'challenge' over several dates, hopefully each team member should make at least a few of the events. I have looked at trackday dates etc, and tried to come up with a reasonable list of dates;
First event; 4th June, Thurs, Test night at Kames - The challenge will not involve track timing, but points will be awarded; task to be announced (there are a few things in the mix, but I need to clarify with the MSA that we'll be okay without a permit)(If thurs night too difficult for folk, then we can look at some options)... will require to be a club member, which will also cover future events;
28th June; Road run, measuring reliability, MPG, and some treasure hunt style clue solving, and a pub lunch / BBQ along the way.
12th July; Grass test (Near Kames), official MSA licenced timed event. (no requirement for any competition licence, or overalls etc, just need to be a club member)
22nd Aug; Autotest, (Glasgow Area), as above, MSA licenced, no saftey gear required, and previous mentioned membership will be valid.
I will start another thread, to get teams organised.
Teams will have until the end of May to get themselves together, and buy their car. The sooner the team is established, the more time they will have to get a car.
Everyone would seem to be happy with a max budget of £500.
In order to allow every team member to have a chance of entering as many of the events as possible, there will be a maximum of 5 per team.
For ease, all cars should be driven to and from events; not everyone will have a tow car / trailer. Each team can decide if all will be insured for road use, or one nominated road driver.
Cars should be MOT'd and taxed;- need not be at time of purchase, but will need to be for the first event, so you may as well buy wisely. Any costs for getting the car through an MOT should be built into the £500 budget. Reciepts & MOT's (inc date) will be checked.
After August, sell the cars, ready for any profit made to go to AMP3 charity day.
We will throw in some minor challenges along the way too, which will be annouced as we go along (man in white coat with envelope, top-gear stylee).
Some competitive elements will require a judge. I have one volunteer so far, any more non competing volunteers would be welcome.
And there will be a special mystery prize for the winners!
