Just read through the whole 58 pages again as it was S_E at its best. Couple of quotes to illustrate how things can change over a short period.

“I can't foresee the oil price dropping any time soon. Contract rates for rigs have dropped but that is due in large part to over supply of new builds. 107 last year with 140+ this due out. Somebody, somewhere is banking on the oil price staying high as these things cost circa $600 million and take 2 years to build (ship) longer if it's a semi.”

“If Scotland gets independence then we will be Labour led for many years. Scotland will never vote Tory in any significant numbers for at least 3 generations so we are left with 2 parties (SNP being minor) both fairly left wing and that is not very good for politics or the Country.”

PhilA made a lot of posts on the subject, seven on the trot at one stage. This one was rather poignant.

its ballsing up my plan at the moment.

the people I see voting yes arnt moving/ dont have big mortgages/ live in council/ have two incomes/ dont care
the people ive spoken to who see the figures and talk about the things we have talked about - they are voting No.

I feel sad already.
The Scotland I love is vanishing, and some real hardship is coming - so frustrating when it doesnt need to be like that.
I actually, selfishly, hope I win the lotto and can watch the Yes voters faces when my worse indyref fears come true.
But that wont happen (the lotto).
I really dont want to move down south, I love Scotland.

The only major change on the ground (apart from the as yet complete unknown of Brexit), is that we do know we are in an even bigger economic hole and have slipped further behind the rUK in terms of economic growth and job creation.

The nationalist approach to solving this is continue to focus their energies on logic-exempt constitutional change, while creating an even more uncertain situation for businesses and individuals, while threatening to create a barrier (whether actually physical or just economic) between our largest domestic market.

As someone who has clung onto their position working in the NS Oil&Gas industry, I wonder what (if any) effect this may have on the industry already trying to come to terms with devalued assets who might be looking to move them on - can't see the uncertainty of Indyref2 being of any value to smaller, leaner operators looking to buy mature assets when there's potential major unknowns on taxes, decommissioning relief etc. etc.

What guarantee does Sturgeon and the SNP have that an independent Scotland will be allowed to remain in the EU and therefore the common market?

What is plan B for not being part of UK and not being part of the EU? Why would anyone want to trade with us and how long to negotiate the trade deals as we'd be behind the rUK in every trade deal queue.

If they do have such guarantees, how will they immediately plug the gap caused by the loss of trade to the rUK which is several times larger than the trade with the EU?

If Scotland remains in the EU will she have to accept free movement of people in return? If so, who will pay for the Wall between rUK Scotland the border provisions ( remember a rejection of free movement of people was central to Brexit so please don't say a hard border between RUK and Scotland is project fear. Project reality yes.

Indie Scotland - no longer our Pound as we'll need a firm plan to move to Euro at some future date.

Simple answers. With simple facts. To simple questions. Over to Sturgeon. The SNP and YES voters to provide. And quickly please.

Aah, such vexed debate already, and not even 12 hours in!

What should a government do if the politics of a country are not reflected by the union it's in? Do we really know how many Scots would prefer to be in the UK and out of the EU, or in the EU and out of the UK?

No. Hence we have another referendum....

A referendum about what, though?

It's a mess.

Completely agree it's a mess Campbell, and judging by the remarkably offensive things being posted on facebook already, it's not going to get cleaned up anytime soon :(

At the moment, I'm happy to explore any opportunities that dont have me being dragged out of the EU against my will. Having to explain to my wife that just because the lords rejected the ammendment to guarentee EU citizens residency, doesn't mean EU citizens won't get residency as part of a Westminster negotiation... She's understandibly upset, given the uncertainty of her status here, and more importantly, how she is now percieved as an EU migrant and a chip on the negotiating table.

Shan times.

Aye. Well let's hope for informed debate next time around. Fat chance. But we can hope.

Incidentally. Local Elections on 4th May. Use them...

It's going to be ugly and divisive and given the SNP could not even form a majority government does no one else like me think is strange when Sturgeon says she is speaking for the whole of Scotland.

Rather than have 18 months of debate and vitriolic bile I hope we have the referendum in 3 months to get it out of the way.

As for EU nationals and their status post Brexit, what about their status if we get Independence? We'll not be part of Europe ( that's been made very clear and the SNP stickibg its fingers in their ears singing lalala can't hear you is changing anything ) and not be part of the UK. We'll be on our own for a bit surely with WTO tariffs galore.
Oh happy days.

AS for being dragged out of the EU against your will. That's democracy and as a fully paid up member of the UK Scotland needs to understand that it was a UK vote not a regional vote. Or, do we just forget about democracy and not bother with votes? What was it, 68% of the 65% of Scots who could have voted voted to remain. Hardly a mandate there as that is only around 44% of the total eligible vote.

Fiscally and economically this just does not make sense. Emotionally yes. But emotions don't pay the bills.

I wonder if she'll lower the voting age again - in other words - the 13&14 year olds from the last referendum will be eligible to vote
