Re: arrghh...not having a good day cop advice needed
I was read the riot act for doing the same thing coming out of the Grassmarket 3 months ago. I ripped up the hill in first, approached maybe 30mph max, bit it was hell of a loud. Then a police car coming towards me over the hill put his lights on and pulled IN FRONT OF MY CAR and slammed on his breaks. He made me do an emergency stop otherwise I would have hit him. He then bullied me with his buddy in the back of his car for over 30 minutes. My friend was in the passenger seat of the Elise.j33ama wrote:First I curbed my alloy this morning , now I have been pulled AGAIN but apparently this time for a reason . Anyway here it goes , gave the car a little burst on the main st , prob up to maybe 35tuts at most , in first gear so yes it was loud. Cop few cars behind me pulls me over . He is in a ordinary cop car (no camera) and is by himself (no partner). He asks how many points I have to which i reply "3", he says well this will make you lose your licence for dangerous driving. He takes me in back of car and takes my details name address etc. He tells me he doesnt need my documents as they have copies in the office (already been pulled 4 times for nowt). So thats that , he doesnt read me my rights , issue horte or anything just says "you will be up at court for that " and lets me go . Before I leave I questioned the fact that he is by himself and has apparently just done me with no evidence at all . He replys well its my word against someone's with 3 points on his licence.
anyone know were I stand with this ? Can he really charge me ?
okay so i had a little burst of speed but its arguable wither or not i broke the speed limit , I am sure everyone on this board enjoys the same occasional blat , thats why we drive the cars we do !
I have been pretty careful to have a good look around if I choose to "be an 4rse" - his words.
I got off with a warning, but was told the incident would be recorded. He did mention that if in court, he could push for driving without due care and attention (6 points), and he asked me if they would believe a new driver or a traffic cops with several years under his belt. I bit my lip and took the ear bashing, although it achieved one thing only, motivation to get out this Nazi State at the earliest oppertunity - they are a bunch of fascist pigs, all the way from Number 10 down to the w@nkers who pulled me (dodgy pun!!!).
Edit:
Maybe it achieved more than I thought, see the reply below

J33ama,
Sounds like you and me should definately NOT hook up any time soon in our cars
Like me, sounds like you love to show off your car, and the busier the place the better. I loving nothing more than to scream from zero to forty at a set of lights on Glasgow road (edi) as fast as possible. Maybury Road (edi) is fantastic too, but I have come to realise, too many people are watching and too many people can be unpredictable making our drving styles potentially deadly. Im not preaching, and if I am, its to myself too! Just reading this has made me realise that these cars CAN and often DO result in a complete change in attitude within a person. I get in the car and feel like superman, I feel better than everyone else, and I feel that if I can, I should push the car to what I perceive to be its limits, and make sure everyone around knows it!
I dont want slaughtered for posting how much of a twat I can be in the car. My excuse is I have only been driving for 6 months and as such, I have the whole "new kid with a car" as well as the "lotus factor" to contend with. My driving over the last month or two has improved dramatically, I am much more aware of my surroundings and the people who I can affect with my sometimes insane driving. I feel like I am learning at a seriously fast pace, and my respect for other road users whilst still on the short side, is growing.
For the record, I have been pulled 9 times in the Elise, and 3 in one night (said night ended in the grassmarket incident). That was 3 months ago, and I haven't been pulled since - proves I am getting better.

But most of them kill themselves in a Saxo 1.buggerall anyway insurance basically stops them from getting anything quick.BiggestNizzy wrote:I think for young drivers horsepower or engine size should be restricted until they have driven for X years, when I got my first car you drive fast and do somethings that thiking about it now send a shiver up my spine.
They do it with motorbikes so why not cars ?
And for those that don't insure the car do you think they will stay within an legislation preventing them from getting that imprezza off bazza down the pub

I am speechless at the above, I am not one to usually speak up and make a point, but honestly, do you feel better getting that off your chest?!

I have not been a perfect example of sensible driving over the years. I have however been sensible enough / lucky, and over the years, learnt that there is a time & place for everything. I love driving, and driving fast. I love the feel of the car working for grip as you nail it through some twisties. BUT, I'm also aware that at every single point on the public road, there is real potenial for a nasty accident, and there are often plenty of folk, or cameras, or cops waiting to catch someone driving in a manner they deem to be unsafe. There are simply too many variables; i.e. other folk doing stupid things. This doesn't mean that I don't enjoy a spirited blast when I get a chance. I have a bit of a reputation at times of being a bit quick, or a bit of a nutter: but have had very few run ins with the police, and (for just now) only ever been done for speeding once. This is because I try to strike a balance with my driving. Speed and 'fun' in the right place at the right time, but knowing when to calm it a bit.
As a pedestrian, seeing somebody 'reving up' on a high st, I would think what a knob; as a driver, I'm sometimes temped to 'be a bit flash'; but more and more, realise I'll just look like a knob if I do. As I say; there's a time & place; on track; at motorsport etc
