George
Might be worth starting a new thread for the order specs!

My spec;
Premium sport pack with Suedetex
Red contrast stitching
Air con
Race pack
Convenience pack - expensive but nice to have the iPod connection as George mentioned
Heated seats - really not essential but at £350 it's not too much against the overall cost of the car
Reversing sensors
Diamond cut alloys
note- red or black brake callipers is a no cost option.
Nice spec :thumbsup

Look forward to seeing it
AMG GT-R
Atom 4 - CM425
Lotus Esprit S4S
G30 M5 Comp
Ferrari 599
Lotus Elise S1 "Shed" spec

Good write ups from AndyG etc. I had the 211 in for service while down training in Edinburgh so I got to have a nosy around. I'd not booked a slot, wasn't intending buying one and was happy to leave the available time to others. There happened to be a bit of spare time in the schedule though so it would have been rude not to have a wee run...cheers Brandon. :thumbsup

Hopefully my opinions might be interesting...

First of all great to catch up with Graeme, thanks for putting up with me sweaty and smelly from training and joking about 'high scores'...

The pics don't do it justice, does look awesome in person. I'm not 100% on the styling front and rear, prefer the Evora nose. Real presence though and it seems crowd appeal - sore necks all round at the bus stop and MR2's on oppo trying to keep up.

First impressions are likewise the damping quality and exquisite noise.

From the drivers seat it's all very familiar but subtly improved. I'm not sure how the wheel position has changed, closer to the driver I think, maybe a bit higher? It's certainly more comfortable for me.

Steering heavier than previous Exiges, not an issue though. I actually liked the gearchange.

I only had a wee blat around the loop so can't really comment on the outer reaches of the handling but great on the smooth stuff and magically soaks up the bumpy and broken surfaces, still with great control.

Brakes good but I didn't feel I really worked them hard (pax was encouraging braking occasionally...). ;)

Proper power, ample torque and linear delivery. Traction fantastic in the dry.
It would be interesting to try one in the wet, I can imagine it would be even better fun but not sure what the balance would be or how adjustable.

Can't wait for the track test drive day...(hint) :D

Maybe contrary to what others have said I did feel the extra width, it's not going to be quite as threadable on the ultimate goat track adventures. Certainly as I came home in the 211 over Cairn o' Mount I reflected the Exige would have been hard work in comparison (placement is fine it's just the additional size).

Overall I think it's a fantastic package. A truely epic Frolic car - 1000 mile blat in serenely damped comfort then proper track pace. Habitable on a day to day basis but still a real occasion driving it. I imagine it putting a smile on your face after even the worst day at the office...

It's probably not quite the perfect car for me but then I'm comparing it with 2 cars to do the same job, I have pretty skewed priorities and I'm a fussy bugger! I have an extreme track/occasional road car in the 211 and another car for the day to day road use (currently the 370Z but a basic Evora would be interesting).
For me that final % on track is vital and I don't think it would match the clarity or focus of the 211. On the road the Exige would be fantastic, almost too fast though (for my licence!) and I'd also worry about wasting it's potential doing the daily slog. The fact that it can come so close is probably it's biggest complement and on that basis would seem a bit of a bargain... :cheers

Money no object I'd have one...and keep the 211.

For those that did not make it into the showroom, the brochure is online -

Green was mentioned when we were in the showroom and I was not sure, however looking at it this evening, rather tasty and goes with the black detailing.... :thumbsup

Am I correct in my understanding with regards to the DPM switch in that it is there a standard just without race mode and that adding the race pack adds the additional mode or is the DPM switch not there at all unless you spec the race pack?

Also has Lotus defined the maximum amount of launches you can do with launch control yet?

Yep. Just as many as you can squeeze in before the clutch burns out :thumbsup

I read the brochure as standard you have DPM switch:
1. Touring
2. Sport
3. DPM off

With Race pack adds the 4th mode:
1. Touring
2. Sport
3. Race
4. DPM off

If it's anything like previous products then 1 use of launch control ditches your warranty...

On a tangent my old S2 Elise 111S recorded 'standing starts' in the ECU along with 0-60 etc. I got a quizzical look from the MMC service manager when I picked the car up after routine service. IIRC it had strangely recorded 141 standing starts since the last service and the best 0-60 was faster than the factory figures for the car...
(I was competing in the Scottish Sprint Championship at the time)

Strong clutches on the old K series... :)

I have been told you get something like 100 full bore launches, you just have to get it reset after every twenty.. That's what MMC told me anyway...

You should get a job in the vehicle dynamics team at Hethel then. Or replace Chris Harris at EVO. I'm sure neither pays as well as your present profession however!

When Brandon was extolling it's virtues that was one of the things he mentioned - you could use the launch control without invalidating the warranty!

Launch control is for woofters in our cars, with a proviso that it may work in racing, but so does a balanced throttle and clutch.

Maybe it was tyres, minor mods or maybe the fact that 60 or so cars had just done 4 or 5 standing starts on the same bit of tarmac.
Or maybe just talent...

anyone know why the car on the Lotus CArs website has a number three emblazened all over it?

(Although it looks ace. And a great colour choice with the red highlights.)

Must admit we can't wait till March as I suspect that it will be a very long wait.

I think the contemplation on the options will be a long, long discussion. However I think the essentials (for enjoyment and resale) are:
Air Conditioning
Race Pack
Rear Parking Sensors

However still struggling with:
Heated seats - will you really use the car when its balmy outside or essential for those unwarranted roof off moments/resale
Convenience Pack - think its required but bit cheeky of Lotus forced you down this route for essentially an ipod connection.

Would be interested to hear what other guys have gone for?

George
George,
Bit of a thread resurrection here but I thought I'd highlight the convenience pack is shown to have cruise control in the brochure. A bit of a bonus for me as I hadn't picked up on it before.
