By Steve Cooper Thursday, September 13th 2007, 14:57 GMT

The World Motor Sport Council has decided to exclude McLaren-Mercedes from the 2007 and 2008 Formula One world constructors championship.

More details to follow shortly...

edit: to add constructors! :)

Blimey  Pretty draconian. Assume this means just the team won't be scoring points but the cars will still be running for the drivers championship?

Modena’s public prosecutor, Giuseppe Tibis, issues ‘avviso di garanzia’ - legal notice that someone is under investigation in a criminal procedure - to Stepney and six McLaren personnel, including Dennis, group managing director Martin Whitmarsh and Jonathan Neale, the team’s managing director.

I thought he worked for Highland Spring - but explains a lot as he drive a fezza :D

There's nothing on F1-Live.com, ITVF1.com, F1.com and Autosport.com doesn't seem to be working.

I can only imagine that it would be a case Macca were exluded from the constructors championships for 2007/2008.

If it were to mean that Alonso/Hamilton were exluded then I think it would be the start of talks about 'break-away' championships again etc etc. Would there really be any point watching the cars at the front for the next 2 years if Macca weren't on the grid at all??... 1 minute gaps back to the rest etc... F1 down the pan?

I don't think the FIA could be that stupid, surely.

FWIW, it looks to me as though Alonso has got is finger out at last and I'm sure Kimi would much rather have the chance to win fair and square than have a hollow championship win which everyone knew hadn't been 'really' earned.

My 2p...

I'm confused.

Have they had their points removed due to having the information or because they have used the information to their benifit?

Surely if it's the latter then why have the drivers been allowed to keep their points if they were gained in an illegal car?

As DC said on ITV's website - if a cyclist is given a concotion by his trainer which he's told is safe and it turns out to be performace enhancing then he's banned - surely a driver driving a car that has been enhanced by illegal means must be disqualified too.

Also - how can the car continue to be driven against Ferrari if they contain some of the intelectual property?????

Jason's right - what a mess!

No one pays a blind bit of notice to the constructors championship, so the FIA have done the obvious get-out here.

Reminds me of Dennis Healy describing a verbal tussle with Douglas Herd as like "being mauled by a sheep".

That's exactly what McMerc have suffered at the hands of the FIA

I think there is bound to be an appeal. If they are looking for somebody to deal with it for them then they can PM me

My guess is that Max Mosley needed to ensure Ferrari get the money they need not having won the title for three years.

McLaren have been fined 100 Million dollars less what they should have got from the TV money which now goes to Ferrari.

Max Mosley has now got rid of Paul Stoddart
Stuffed BAR when they got quick with their fuel tank
Stuffed Frank Williams by getting BMW to buy Sauber
and completed the trick by stuffing Ron Dennis in the pocket

He really is an evil piece of turd.

He couldn't chuck out the drivers because of public opinion and the best championship fight there has been in ages. He's going to have another meeting in December to see if he should whack McLaren again for 2008 ;)

The fact remains that Ferrari allowed their information to be given away to McLaren, Ferrari are as guilty as anyone else for allowing it to happen.

So why should Ferrari be rewarded for their own mistakes?

If this was football then there'd be a few torched Fezzas tonight

Agree 100% Lawrence, just when F1 was becoming worth watching again Ferrari stamp their feet and Mosely snaps to attention.

Not forgetting the frankly laughable Police investigation in Italy, a similar witch hunt occurred after Senna's crash when they tried to hold Frank Williams and Patrick ead responsible.

None of it to benefit Ferrari of course.
