Guys,
Been after a 111s due to horror stories I have heard about the 118 model. I have seen a couple of 118s I like but have been reluctant to buy one. I am right to wait on a good 111s or go for a good box standard s1.

Also if anyone has owned both can they please adivise.

Cheers

the best ones to go for are the 135R's or the 135 Sports. But i'm biased and risk starting a debate with these comments ;)

Cheers,

Steve

Have you been checking PH?

Id go for the 111s or the 135s - they're just that little bit rarer

And the 111s is just a standard engine with a fancy head on it (more or less) The do the same blowey-up things as the standard jobbie....

Think the B&C is just uprated camshafts, essentially.

A 135-based S1 or S2 will be a great car. The 135 bit is a conservative figure for the gains produced by a CNC-machined head of Janspeed design, many say they were nearer 140 but had to be played down cos this was too close to the 143bhp produced by the then-new VVC engined Elises which cost a bomb more! Dave Minter thought the 135-equipped S1 was the way they should all have come out the factory.

S1 135 sport models have good package of tweaks and pretty rare, so good exclusivity.

S2 135 sports are also available, not quite as special but still not that common and a good effort as I recall.

S2 135Rs are certainly turning out to be The Daddy of non-toyota S2s in terms of package, ability and some measure of rarity too. Will leave another anorak to come along and detail each specification...

Certainly Robin seems to have been more excited about his 135R than any other Lotus I can remember him owning (and he's had a few!!)

My S1 is as close to a 135 Sport as I can get it without changing the gearbox (think I now prefer the std, longer box, as less crazy on M-ways). Got a tweaked head on it (frankly, better than the 135 head actually) but std cams. Drives brilliantly, more than fast enough and just the right blend IMHO.

Note, S2 111S 's are considered pretty good too, they have nearly 160bhp out the box I think and a hybrid gearbox with close ratios up to 4th and then a more sane 5th (I think...ready to be corrected though).

HTH
