Supercharged elise for 2008

Post by jj » Tue Oct 23, 2007 11:49 pm

Looks interesting (and maybe a way of getting more life out the S2 shape) that lotus are now doing a supercharged 220hp elise.

More power for Exige S as well at 240ps.

If I had just bought I would be feeling a bit shafted though - Lotus seem to move the goalposts yearly on models.

Mon the classics!

Interesting. The rationalisation of the option packs makes a lot of sense, as does the SC Elise. The only surprising thing about the latter is that they haven't done it before as there was so clearly a demand for it. An 08 Exige with Sport and Performance packs would be close to my perfect weekend car, but I think I'l be hanging on to my beloved N/A Exige for a good couple of years yet.

Sadly all this means that my predictions of an S3 Elise/Exige seem to be wide of the mark :?

Don't agree that no Elise should cost over 25K. In my book an SC Elise would be better than a Boxster S in just about every respect - performance, handling, steering feel, looks, and people would think of you as an informed enthusiast rather than a poser who couldn't afford a 911 :D

I agree that no elise should cost more than £25K not that it would make any difference to me being able to afford one, as ryalm say's an elise will beat the c0ckster in all criteria listed but if I where driving any distance the the porker wins, Don't get me wrong lotus have to make money but when looking at the 2-11 on friday fantastic yes but that is a £40K toy no other word for it.

EDIT:and what in the name of the wee man is "lifestyle paint" ?!?!

Here's the thing though.

I have a paid off '03 plate VX220. It's probably worth 11k cos of the miles ive got on it. So this puts me in a similar position to some of you S1 boys.

When i looked at changing to Robin's (?) orange S2 i was looking at £16k PLUS my VX to change. To get a SC elise i'm now looking at £22k plus my car.

I know you always pay a premium for a brand new car, but even with the first year or so of depreciation i can't (and not sure i'll ever be able to) justify getting a new Lotus.

They can tweak the elise / exige all they want but it's not different enough to warrant me changing from my nicely set up VX.

EDIT : I should say this is a genuine quandry - not a "if i had the money" thing
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

I guess its different for all people though - some folk will buy an Elise at £37k, lose 10k in the first year, and not be bothered. Then there will be people who would only want a used s1 as it suits them and the way they will use it.

I have experience of a few, buying cheaper cars outright and making a few £ (blue s2+s1) losing a fortune (£5k on exige) and am in a happy place just now with the s1 exige. Its been worth every penny though

I still think they are awesome cars, but at £40k there are a lot of other options new and used.

I think that's the thing JJ - for that sort of money i could keep the VX and get something a bit cooler than a fiat panda.

if that's possible
