My work HP Laptop has been fubarred since last night.
Win2000 (yes, I know), and getting the blue screen of death with "inaccessible_boot_device" with a few hex numbers before and lots of advice after.
Is there anything I can do before Monday (RAM and HardDrive already been out and back in) ?
F'ing thing was new in July, after the last one went wonk also.

Do you get the same message when the hard drive is pulled out? Also this may sound daft but make sure nothing is in the CD / DVD drive (and floppy if you have, which I doubt).
And ditch Win2K - XP miles better now.

We're moving to Vista in Jan - woopdedoo !
Nothing in CD Drive...
Now starting a HDD self test...
The bummer is that this machine has a great spec (widescreen 17", 4GB ram, Core2Duo 7600 etc), but hampered by my companies safe and cheap approach to IT !

Vista is Evil. I reinstalled XP onto a forth PC on Friday. Vista is unstable, slow and NOT user friendly.

You mentioned you took the HDD out the machine. Worth checking if you get the exact same error with or without HDD. For example, if you get the same error, chances are your drive is not being detected or your drive is goosed. If the error is different, then drive is being detected and may be goosed...etc etc.
Get back with specific error with and without a hard drive installed.
