Managed to bag another 3 points last night on the way into town to pick up the missus from her xmas party - 57 in a 30. Exactly 1 year (to the day) since i got my last 3 points.
The police jumped out from behind a bus stop flashing a torch and standing in the middle of the road!
they had a successful night - in the time i was sitting there getting a lecture, they stopped 6 other cars in the same way!

anyway, when i renewed my insurance this year on the daily drive, Elephant told me they would struggle to get any less as i had 3 points.

Someone told me last night that it doesnt affect your insurance until it hits 9 points!?
Is this right?

Im afraid it does, but not normally until you renew. You sure thats only 3 points? I thought the upper band in a 30 was more 50 for 3?!

With the increase in scameras i think 3 points matters less than it used to but it's still an opportinity to make money and thus they'll hike the premuims if they can.

Not 100% but I think you are supposed to notify the insurance of any changes, points etc. If they want they can void your insurance if you dont declare the points right away.

In my experience, 3 points does next to nothing to a premium, 6 points can add around 12%, and with 9 points you start to feel a slight burning around your rectal area.

This year I had the joy of insuring the Elise with 9 points and a claim.

Lucky I had some money in the bank as it was the most I have paid for insurance since I was 17!

the person that told me about the 9 points used to work in the motor insurance industry - thats why im questioning it now.

the section on the road where i pulled over was a 50 - there was a section of about 300 yards which has been downgraded to a 30.
I didnt dispute it and accepted blame straight away as I had no excuse - it was 1am so it wasnt that busy (apart from the following 6 cars that got caught also)

All in all, i was quite lucky to only get 3 points.

Very lucky. I got 5 points and and a 400 quid fine for 56 in a 30 zone. That was 4 yrs ago too.

I've just renewed my insurance with 6 points. Swapped from Admiral to Elephant (same company really). You can check how various things affect your insurance on the Elephant website. Each 3 points added about £100

But add another driver on you policy (preferably an old woman) and it can drop over £100

Suggest that you inform your insurance company straight away as you are supposed to. I forgot all about it until last week, so I told them three months late.

No problem and no increase this year, but probably will be for the 5 points when I renew.

Why were you only doing 65 tuts then and not taking full advantage and doing 130 tuts .....
