Itunes are gits and changed the shraing options so it is no longer readable from xmbc, I know that shotcast is so was thinking of running a shotcast server that pulls from itunes.
Long shot I know, xposting across various forums.

Yea apple introduced client daap authentication in version 7... Short of telling winamp to use the soundcard as an input and route that to the shoutcast plugin, i'm at a loss....

Think i've got a solution for this if you're still looking sanjoy. Just discovered MyTunesRss which turns your itunes db into an html encapsulated stream.

Will stream over the internet too, so handy for those late nights at work!

That does look useful although not a fit for what I am looking to achieve as am looking to access the itunes playlists via my xbox I.

ok, determined not to give up here.... I havnt managed to get xbmc up and running yet, but i will assume it accesses music via the daap protocol.
How about using firefly media server? If you point it at your itunes library, it will share the contents as a daap source, readable from any version of itunes, or i presume xbmc? I think you'll have to turn off sharing in itunes to avoid a port conflict.
