Oh Joy!!

Have just been rumaging through what is pretty much my life's history up till leaving school. Stuff that has been stored in my father's attic for the last 10 years, most of which I had no idea I had...

Among the junk I discovered a copy of Autocar, dated 10th July 1996. On the cover is the Williams Renault F1, the Merc SLK, and the Lotus Elise!! :D :D This must have been one of the earliest reviews! I re-read the article, and memories of imagining what this car might be like came flooding back. As a 16 year old boy, just owning any car would be a dream come true (at the time I had a Yugo 45   ). The thought of owning an Elise would never have crossed my mind... Well now I have one, and reading back over the old article in a magazine I had as a boy makes me realise how lucky I am. I dearly love that every time I get in my Elise it amazes me, and feel just a little bit silly that I can derive such pleasure from it, every time, without fail.

(Please excuse the rather revolting schoolboy reminiscing  . It's just a little odd to feel like a kid again....)

Fantastic post Tom. I'm going to copy it and show it to the mrs as she doesn't quite get it.

Ive got a good elise review from classic car mag in 2006.

It reviewed a Std S1 111, an S1 111s, 340r and S1 exige alongside their owners IIRC (probably SELOC members)
Good little write up also. i'll try and scan and post on SE1 if no one has done so already.

Theoretically, that's copyrighted material above, but in the spirit of the thread I don't think anyone is gonna have a problem, so please leave it up (unless we get threats ;))

On a similar note, I once mentioned to my parents soon after I got the car, how chuffed I was that I now owned a car that appears on "Supercar" calendars - long childhood of dreaming of owning the cars on my bedroom wall.

Now, each and every Christmas, they go out and find me a calendar with an Elise on it - bless 'em 8)
