Muppets on SE

Post by Scotty C » Wed May 28, 2008 10:15 am

Is it just me or are there more muppets on SE.

Or is it just the Lotus brand in general?

Mate, I've been thinking exactly the same as you of late. Shame really, as I know of quite a few stalwarts that have been put off posting/browsing as a result :?

Guys, if posts are bothering you - why have the mods not seen a single one reported?

F**k all we can do if nobody complains - all the moderators can do is act on the users requests, unless it's waaaay OTT.

Don't think its just about the posts mate, but the characters behind the posts.

No-one reports on here, IMO, as we're all very PC (well that's, the best expression I could think of to sum it up..) to ensure we don't appear snobbish or car-eliteist and normally the posts sort themselves out eventually. I think its the fact that the threads and the subject matter of them are posted in the first place is indicative that the audience is changing. For what its worth, I can remember the days (not all that long ago) where I would reckon I'd happily sit in the pub with each and every member of SE (at least for a limited time  ). Doubt I'd say that now. Maybe I'm getting old!

I haven't noticed any conspicuous muppetry recently - but I definitely don't read every thread. There were certainly some extremely muppetish postings a while ago from those with a boy racer leaning or one or two people with a strange intolerance of cyclists :) Seems to be self regulating to an extent - daft posts tend to be shot down in a blaze of ridicule.

So what you're saying is the audience is changing.... Yup - fact. Always has, always will. There are still plenty of the old old guard who probably still think of me as the gobby new boy. The cars get cheaper, the audience will change. All we can do is maintain a level of comment on the forum so that it doesn't descend into ned-levels of posting. To do that, we need the general membership to indicate what they feel is acceptable and what isnt. Do that and the membership will fit.

As a group, we've never prevented someone with an interest in joining up from joining up. The day we do is the day I (and I imagine quite a few others) walk away. We're not a private members club - if you want that, then this isn't it.

You don't have to be Scottish and you don't need an Elise - but you do need an interest in them.

I guess that would have been funnier if I set the correct timezone in the user control panel and got the hour right...
