Re: Watch lovers?
As many of you know I have not worn a watch for over 40 years, but Verian is nagging me to come up with birthday present ideas, so thought that it was worth going for this as a punt. Looks cool do you not think?
I don't have a clock in N3 and this is a complete phone Smartwatch, so I can just put my PAYG sim card into it, and look like a twat with a Big Ben strapped to my wrist.

Re: Watch lovers?
Couple of old skool arrivals over the past year.
First up, a Seiko 6309-7040 dating from May 1977...
I've long fancied a Seiko 6105 (the 'Captain Willard' watch that Martin Sheen wore in Apocalypse Now), but prices have rocketed over the past 5 - 10 years.
The 6309-7040 was the replacement for the 6105 and launched in 76/77, using a similar 'pillow style' case, but a cheaper non-hacking movement.
This one's a cheapy from the Far East, and as such, has been on the receiving end of the 'usual treatment' - Aftermarket dial / hands / bezel insert, and the case polished to within an inch of its life
Despite this, I like the look and it's comfortable to wear - I picked up a repro 6105 dial / set of hands / bezel insert / waffle strap, as well as a double dome sapphire, so might tweak it a bit more.
Secondly, we have a Desotos Chrono from 1976
I've wanted a 'birth year' watch for a while, and decided now was the time to buy before prices climb next year (they're a popular 40th birthday present).
Problem is, most 70's watches are tiny by today's standard - 35-36mm is common, and looks lost on your wrist. The 40mm + 70's watches seem to command a premium, possibly because of this?
The Porsche Design studio came up with a 40mm Chrono in the 70's, which was produced by Orfina - Who in turn sold cases to various private labels (As well as Heuer...) - They also produced watches on behalf of Porsche Design (PD), and sold some they labelled with their own Orfina brand. They were issued as a military watch by several countries, and have developed a decent following. (Bodie wore one in The Professionals TV show )
Desotos were one of those 'private labels' - Can't find much about them now, so they obviously weren't a large concern. Everything is pretty much identical to the Orfina / PD watches, with the black PVD'd case (the first of its type) and Valjoux 7750 movement. (My one has a PD bracelet, but who knows if it's original?!)

Re: Watch lovers?
Bought myself a Monaco a couple of weeks back as an occasional watch to wear.
As the majority of the time it will sit in the drawer not being used can anyone recommend a watch winder so I don't have to wind it up and change the date when I come to wear it.

Re: Watch lovers?
As part of considering a new Omega Seamaster, I just found this article on auto mechanisms, winding etc
https://omegaforums.net/threads/keeping ... time.1453/
Interesting how it talks about winding before wearing. Might explain why my Tag never kept good time.

Re: Watch lovers?
Question for the knowledgeable watch guys.
Anyone know a reashonable price to pay for a used limited edition Omega Seamaster 50th edition James Bond and any for sale through the watch forums ?
https://www.omegawatches.com/watches/se ... 412001005/
One is advertised at a Glasgow seller on eBay with open to offers @ £3995. Not really willing to pay £1600 more than a standard new one for a basic Omega.
I fancy an omega seamaster and new ones can be bought for £2300 new, RRP is £2770, I would be happy to buy 2nd hand but most recent standard ones I've seen are advertised above £2300.

Re: Watch lovers?
While awaiting the SE watch expert(s) response, here's my tuppence;
The Bond watch looks great - If it's a new / limited edition, there won't be many on the open market, so it might be difficult to find a bargain deal. My main reservation with it, is the movement - it's a caliber 2507, which is a an evolution of the 2500 movement, with a 48 hour power reserve.
Nothing wrong with the 2500, but the higher end Seamaster's got the 'fancier' caliber 8500, with its 60 hour power reserve.
In the words of the internet "With the 8500 calibers, Omega developed everything around the Co-Axial escapement instead of making the Co-Axial work with existing movements".
My £2300 would be spent on a secondhand Ceramic Bezel'ed Seamaster Planet Ocean, with the 8500 movement / display back - Choose from an orange or black bezel, and 42 or 45.5mm diameter (depends how big your wrists are; the 45.5mm wears smaller than you'd think).
Chrono24 is a good place to look, to get a feel for the market.

Not a classic or collectable one but treated myself to this as a promotion present. Been looking at them for years and finally took the plunge. Will eventually go for a navitimer but love the look of this for now. Breitling B50 cockpit night mission.

Re: Watch lovers?
So, not content with costing me my Elise it looks like this second house might claim another casualty!
I have a 2010 Planet Ocean (42mm - I think) which I may need to sell. Would any of the resident watch gurus be able to give me an idea what the going rate for one is?
If it's not much I'd rather keep it!
Thanks for any info - heres a quick (blurry) pic of it:

Re: Watch lovers?
Interested in where you should go to sell a watch like this. After getting a replacement on insurance, when I look at it I just see money that could be better spent on other things so going to liquidate.
