Re: Watch lovers?
Doubt a rolex could be faked to the necessary degree, but I guess you're not referring to them - they get sent back to Switzerland for servicing and the case and movement are separated and get dealt with in separate departments. Can't imagine other high end watches being serviced on site in Glasgow?s29ttc wrote:THere is a lot of people going on about a website perfect clone or something that sells watches. They copy every detail of expensive watches. Guy took them in to somewhere in argyle archade and the man in shop serviced it. Said to him very nice watch bla bla bla. When he told him it was a fake he didnt believe it because he had been working with watches 30 years and never seen one so real. Ill try find out the web address for it

And what is quite spooky is that my Carrera was bought by myself as a birthday present for my 30th.Scotty C wrote:dlogan wrote:I like the Oris watches Scott, and the TT3 Ltd edition is nice.

Re: Watch lovers?
Some of the replicas out there are getting mighty tempting though..... Just had a wee nosey at the Omega Seamaster at Perfect Clones.... and it's pretty bloody similar looking to a real one if you ask me!

If they do the group buy in work I may be tempted. Aparantly if you order 3 or 4 at a time saves money somewhere or somthing god knows. A lot of the guys are into their watches and all buy them off there and swear by the site.... I don't know how good it is but I dont have a dan doo about watches

Nothing worse or more embarrasing than having a fake and getting called on it IMO. Like most things, best to save up and buy the real thing - you'll get far more satisfaction out of it

I concur.GregR wrote:Nothing worse or more embarrasing than having a fake and getting called on it IMO. Like most things, best to save up and buy the real thing - you'll get far more satisfaction out of it
However, if it's a decent quality watch and is near enough identical to look at when compared to the real thing.... it would probably do me until such time as I can afford the 'real' one Lets face it, it's not like real Breitlings etc. keep perfect time and are they really 10 times better than the replica!??!
Of course when it gets to that time in my life when I can afford lots of nice watches, I'll be the first to disagree with the above statement...

Yip, possibly even 20 times betterDDtB wrote: Lets face it, it's not like real Breitlings etc. keep perfect time and are they really 10 times better than the replica!??!
The main reason people buy an expensive watch is for quality not for the name. The main reason poeple buy fakes are for the name and not quality.

Re: Watch lovers?
It's funny though that the first thing the saleswoman said to me when I was looking at the Breitlings was "now please be aware that these watches aren't the best at keeping time and will lose/gain time every day, oh and they do also need to be sent away for regular servicing".....ABZ-Elise wrote:Yip, possibly even 20 times betterDDtB wrote: Lets face it, it's not like real Breitlings etc. keep perfect time and are they really 10 times better than the replica!??!

I'm not convinced that a 'replica' with a proper swiss movement, decent glass and strap etc. is going to be 20 times worse than a 'real' one.
IMHO if you removed the Rolex or Breitling etc. name from a 'real' watch, there's no way it would command the same premium even if the quality was the same.
btw I currently have a 'real' seiko on my wrist.
Re: Watch lovers?
I'd also be willing to bet that half the folk who claim to buy these watches for the quality, wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the 'real' one and a proper replica.

People however buy an expensive watch to have a shiny thing it is essentially jewelry i can see no reason beyond that as i don't think there is a measurable difference in accuracy or performance between my cheapo casio and a hugely expensive watch. I certainly know where i would be putting my money on the reliability front. Essentially it is exactly the same thought processes as women and shoes
If accuracy was so important then a pocket GPS is the way to go due to it being tied to an atomic clock which keeps the whole system running.
