I've been bored again. Anyone want a tow rope?
The rope is about £1 a meter, karabinas would probably be good if you want clips, otherwise just loop it through itself. The rope is 10mm sisal so will be plenty strong enough. I can do any type of rope, any length and any size of eye.
Let me know if any one wants one.

Was thinking of picking up the raw materials for making new front tow eyes. SS ring and then standard ss bolt. Mine is now an elipse.

The one in the pic is ~3m long, will that do you?
If so, Paypal would be easiest I reckon, call it £5 and let me know where to post it. If you want the spring clip it's £1.50 but (Steel?) Karabinas would definatly be better.

Oi! Less of that!

One team one fight and all that....
Sanjoy,
I was looking at replacing mine with a spherical bearing and shackle, but I haven't looked very hard yet. Should be much stronger. You need a rod-end with an M8 male thread on IIRC. That would also give a bit of articulation if you need dragging out from an odd angle. (Also no welding required

Breaking strain of sisal rope is ~600 Kgs. I suggest your tow point would give up long before this!
I have 2 made up ready to go and run out of rope, get your requests in and I'll get the rope tomorrow. If anyone wants any other sizes or other material Nylon, polypropelene, etc. (for any purpose...

) let me know too.
It's quire theraputic and it keeps me off e-bay.

Nice rope splicing Richard.......
My FIL used to do that sort of thing for me but he's departed us now
Could you do something that would neatly go over the 50mm towball at one end and loop through itself at the other? I'd prefer a nylon type if possible and 3 metres is a good length. I have hasps here that should fit.

So a close fit 50mm eye in one end and a say a long-ish eye in the other? No problem, I'll try and get 10 mm Nylon tomorrow. I'll let you know when it's done.

10mm Nylon ~ 2000kg
12mm Nylon ~ 3000kg
I'll see what I can find.
I should add that these ropes are "as seen" with no garuntee of strength, as I have no way of testing them.
My splices have been used on working narrow boats for years with no problem.
What I will say though is that if a splice fails I'll replace the whole rope FOC.
