While down the beach at o6o7o8 I managed to drop my camera in the sand! It now does not focus and makes horrible noises.

It’s a Canon Ixus 970 IS and is 2 months old. I was given a quote to fix it for £100!

(The camera is now about £230 online)
Anyone on here know where else I could try to get it fixed? I’ve tried A J Johnstone in Glasgow, which is apparently the only place in Glasgow!? I’m currently swaying towards buying a smaller camera from the Ixus range if I can’t get it fixed.
Cheers

I tried that on my lunch hour there. Took all the covers off and sprayed it with compressed air. Some sand came out but not the important grain

Hi Heds
My uncle is pretty good with these things (he normally redoes our office pc's etc when they clog with dust) and is a photographer, and works in photography for Edinburgh Uni.
Hes in the US for 2 weeks but if your getting nowhere let me know and we can sort it for him to have a look.

I took my camera apart a cannon IXUS 400 due to sand from a beach and it never worked again .

It was a great camera . Keep blowing it .

And some gentle tapping, and more air. If not, put the £100 towards a new camera, with a new warranty. I quite fancy a Lumix TZ5.
No, No! not Bloke. It's pronounced Black, as in Plaque

Just tried some gentle tapping and that seems to have reduced the horrible noise, but still won't focus

Sounds good, if i'm still nowhere and not given into the temptation of a new one (can't really afford it atm) I'll give you a shout

Live with the parents and tried that before when I blew up my laptop, they didn't want to claim then so doubt they would for this.
