If the entry list is to be believed, I think this could be worth a visit :

When Aviemore was the base of the Scottish Rally in the 70s/80s, all the top drivers stayed at the hotel my dad was the Restaurant Manager - I got to meet many of the greats and see (and sometime sit in) the cars. The noises, cars and drivers weill bring back memories.....

Keen ? :D

Day after we come back from hols I think, but now trying to persuade the missus!

Or maybe I'll be granted a pass to bring the two terrors to let her get on with the washing ;-) May only make it service area and one stage, not easy lugging 1yr old and 3yr old around the forests, but very interested.

I know the Clerk of the Course and it is to be believed................. :thumbsup

Waits on Father Gibson to post up gratuitous pics of Crieff Rally Team circa 1977 with historic cars and Noops hairstyles

What date is it?

The bodyshop that's working on my car has a few MK2's in getting built, including one with 300+ bhp/£21k's worth of millington diamond, and all of the other right bits to match :slever: They built Colin's Mk2 as well. Not been to a rally in ages, seeing those MK2's last night has got me looking forward to one.

I have been a rally fan since my dad work at CPT in Aberdeen (late 70's) and we used to get in to see the cars before the set of on the Granite.

My best memory of them all was on the McRae Stages. I was at the bottom of what can only be described as a set of stairs in the landscape with a left then right kink out of every step. I had seen Colin driving before but this was the first time I really understood the difference between the amateurs and the pros. Colin was the first car thru in the Mk2 escort '00'course car (IIRC) and he came down these mile long steps without once hearing any sign of lift off from the throttle. He was absolutely full tilt all the way, yet the car looked composed and balanced at every step. At the bottom was a tight hairpin left and the car was set up beautifully with a Scandinavian flick and then drifted thru the corner at what appeared to be a pace to match the fastest 4WD machinery.
The only other car that day that was just as impressive, another mk2, was Jimmy McRae. He, again, came down the hill fully committed.

The rest of the day was almost a letdown, with every other car lifting off to some degree coming down each of the series of steps.

Anyway I better stop now as I can feel my eyes welling up

Looking forward to it again this year though with some very big names. :D

Sounds amazing, some proper rally legends (both alive and mechanical!)

Never been to a rally before, though so possibly silly question coming up...

Where do I go... What do I need (ie money, wellies, camera? ;))

/n00b moment

Chris

We will definately be there, cant let something like this happen right on our doorstep without going along and making a day of it. Wont be taking the 340 tho, something more practical required!!!
