Tiff and the 5th Gear Team

Post by Gareth » Tue Aug 26, 2008 5:43 pm

So a strange one.....

Short story.....

I got a email today from "Tiff Needel" asking if I would be willing to lend my car to "them" for a road and track test for their programme - What's it like to own a British Sports car in 2008. He also added he quite fancies it for his garage....

I kid you not!!

I replied: Providing this is not a hoax....bla bla bla

If real...and I can't really doubt it as the email and phone number are legit.....would be awesome!

Or even sell it to 5th gear for their 'win this car' competition.

I can imagine the competion question;

Early in the show we featured the 340R, who made it?

a. Lotus
b. Lancia
c. Lada

Hmmm it will be the usual 5th gear car test which comprises the 'how sideways can Tiffany get this car ' test and that's it.

If you get to meet them please ask how they manage to make 5th Gear so sh*t when it used to be quite good. ie. pre Tim Lovejoy days.

They really are pathetic, I keep waiting for:
This week you can win a Lotus. Lotus begins with which of these 3 popular letters:
a. E
b. L
c. S
Competitions like that should be banned, though I suppose that's how they make the money to buy the car in the first place!
...
Gareth - have you advertised the car or do 5th Gear people trawl ScottishElises...?
'16 MINI Cooper S - Family fun hatch
'98 Lotus Elise - Fun day car
'04 Maserati Coupe GT - Manual, v8, Italian...
'18 Mazda Mx5 - The wife's, so naturally my daily
'19 Ducati Monster 797 - Baby bike bike

The problem is that you're not allowed to just phone in and leave your name.. that would be a lottery for which you need a difficult to get license. They need to introduce an element of skill... i.e. you have to answer a question you could actually get wrong for it to be classed as a competition. Making it stupidly easy just means they get the maximum no. of calls. Makes a mockery of the rules really.

Watched 2 episodes of this series of 5th gear and it seems you all you need to do is have a bad unwashed and unbrushed haircut, hairy chest exposed by unbuttoning too many buttons on your crushed dirty looking shirt or crappy t-shirt, dress like you did at uni even though that was over 10 years ago just talk utter nonsense that only you think is cool and funny to get a job there......so basically 5th gear is still sh*t and the producers are still struggling to find 'that idea' to make it cool again. oh and plato is still a knob too.

Yeah. Would be cool.
If they featured it and he didn't buy it...I would def. keep it. Would have some extra special emotional ties :D
See if he replies tomorrow.

I just think it would be a great day out....
Meet him, get some driving tips (hopefully) and see how the 340R should be driven because I'm certainly not good enough to.

I think there is a video clip on 340r.net of tiffanydell driving it when it was released in 2000. Dunno if that was tg or 5g.

Iirc he didn't really like it back then.

Drove it like a loon though as per usual, and it would be nice to see yours driven properly for the 1st time since you got it. :-)
