Knockhill Anticlockwise

I remember hearing a few years ago that Knockhill used to run some events including track days, anticlockwise.
An instructor told me that is why they have exit kerbing at the entry to corners (when going clockwise), and that they are quite unusual in having MSA approval for running in both directions.
Anyone ever done it in this direction?
What are the chances of getting to experience this in the future?

That would be an experience, taking clarkes and the chicane backwards, I drove up the pit straight at the end of the amp3 day but thats all Im going to say about that

The Still Game Crew did this a few years ago...........
It does focus the mind when you are hurtling down the straight towards the hairpin knowing that you have the luxury of three meters of kitty litter to stop you hitting the Armco after locking up on the "river" that runs across the track from the Grandstand
I also remember that Duffus is a hell of a steep climb when travelling in the opposite direction.
Good fun though

Yeah - as Iain said, Knockhill - well Sasha - arranged for a few trial events running in reverse direction. Was very entertaining and it's a pity it's soo difficult for them to do it on a regular basis.
The hairpin as mention when your gaining speed and having to brake downhill, the extra turn which everyone ignores running in normal direction (on to Railway straight) heading into the chicane blind and hoping you've got the line right and the exit of duffus when you get very close to the bridge.
Think the two events that were run there was mainly populated by the SE old skool
I'm sure somewhere on the server I've got footage of it.....will see if I can dig it out.

I remember doing the one and only trackday that KH held in the anticlockwise direction, a good few years ago,it was great fun, even more so cause it was P*ssing wet!!
It was amazing how different it was, especially the high speed you carried down the straight to the hairpin. Going up Duffus was interesting as well, it is quite a climb.
Apparently it would cost too much to alter all the run off areas to be safe for anticlockwise. I suggested that as it was obviously very dangerous belting down the straight to a "downhill hairpin" that they should use the loop left about 200yds up from the hairpin, but again runoffs would have to be created.
Its a pity they wont do it because it would stop us KH regulars from getting bored!!

Biggest issue for them Paul isn't the lack of run off - there's tracks with much less but that for them to run reverse then have to run the whole day reverse direction. It's to combat against the unlikely event of someone doing one direction in the morning and then forgetting that they have to go the other way in the afternoon. But that's the MSA for you!

Yes, that's exactly why I was asking.
For the first time in 5 years, I didn't do Knockhill this year (only drove Croft, East Fortune and Silverstone).
Anti clockwise would get me back to KH though
ETA Would be interested to see any footage Mac.

Still looking.....
Thought I would post this link though - it's too some footage I took in 2004 with Iain Ferguson in the car with me. Fair bit has changed with regards to the rules on trackdays since then....

Did it once (Rally school day maybe) - Duffus was just as much fun uphill as down - line was very diificult,Clarks was good and the chicane was like going over a cliff .

Remember it well...2004 indeed...
Streaming wet the one I did...Not the best weather conditions for a Caterham...
Chicane was interesting...You arrived at a fair lick, and it was a blind entry...
Climbed up the hill to Duffus, and was met by a marshall frantically waving yellows, and an Impreza wagon on its side...Ho hum...
Good fun...Would have been nuts in the dry...(!)
Cheers,
Ross.

I've lapped it in reverse.
In the back of an Astra estate.

I marshalled at a sprint there years ago, they used the astra to ferry us round; I was at the top of Duffus.

Yeah, only way onto EF this year was by sprinting. Very poor value, but great fun.
KH backwards does sound slightly hairy from the guys who've done it, but it'd be a challenge I'm sure most regulars would be interested in having the opportunity to try.
(keep searching for that footage Mac

)

I remember spectating at the very wet reverse night, would love to try KH in reverse. Also recall a convo with Mac regarding the approach to Clarks being very tricky, I was stood in the shed there watching, looked absolutely treacherous.
Footage would be good
