Is there anyone on here involved in the games industry?
I'm looking for a topic for my GMS dissartation and wouldn't mind a PM to discuss a few things.
Cheers
Mac

I'd take a wild stab at the use of GPS data to create tracks in racing games...
Do I win the cuddly toy?

You can have a stroke at the cuddly toy for getting a small part of it correct. I'm thinking about using the whole shooting match with arial photogramy & digital imaging so that everything that's there is there.
Was also thinking it would be cool to do something different - like a hillclimb venue

Yep, for 12 years and suffering only slight insanity

I'm a games designer though, so better at talking sh*t then being mega-technical but if I can't answer your questions then I'm sure some of our resident boffins can help.

Indeed, I am also in the games industry. I'm a designer too but do hands on technical work also. Feel free to PM me.

Im not sure if im any use to you but i run arcades in holiday parks. I have probably played every arcade driving game released in the last 20 years. I have a pretty good idea of what works and does not work, i.e. makes money in the pay to play industry. If you need to know anything from the coin op industry, feel free to pm me
Digital imaging came around in my industry in 1983 with the firefox video game. It used real life footage and operated with the old video discs. This system was promptly dropped as it was very problematic.

I am not sure quite what you are talking about as I am neither an academic or a games designer/programmer however I am aware that there is a quite a recent "game" not long out called iRacing
Wikipedia quote, "iRacing creates each track using proprietary exactrac laser mapping technology to replicate the personality, eccentricities and challenges of the track with mathematical precision."
Forgive me if I am wide of the mark.
Stewart
P.S.
Never tried the game but am presently enjoying GTR Evo for the PC with the recent addition of the Ledenon track

you've just started the course and your wanting to do the dissertation!?
I was like that with mine a few years ago, but I put it off until after my final exams which was the biggest mistake ever! I had a break after 7 years of studying and I totally switched off and cant get my head round it again.
In fact, im currently sitting in a hotel room in dublin half way through my literature review and surfing SE!!!
[rant]Fekcing fed up with studying and not really getting anywhere as I know through experience what i want to write but cannae find the fecking text to go along with it!!!

I know - but I'm just looking for ideas at present.
Sounds like what I was thinking has already been done according to Woody's research so might need to look at another topic (which would be No.3) hence the reason to give it some though just now and even work on getting the bones of it together.
It's supposed to be 600 hours worth!
