Currently in the process of moving home at the minute and my new house has a garage which is freezing
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which type of heater i should be looking at ?
It will be left on all the time just to keep the place from freezing and for doing work on the cars from time to time.
I was looking at those electric oil filled ones but not really sure they will be warm enough to make a difference and will probably cost the earth to run

id be tempted to get an infra red radiant heater if it was just for heat to working in, however with these placcy cars, id be frightened id leave it on and id come back the next morning to see a big blob of melted plastic

I tried but it is a waste of time as the concrete floor act as a heat sink . The only way I could see was to fully insulate and seal up the garage which would lead to condensation issues and be a waste of cash . My garage is remote from the house , may be different if its built on .

Thermals and my old flying suit do the job.

Already looked at those foam mats to cover the floor , not sure how much they will help though

I have an oil filled radiator in both garages. One is left on all the time to keep the Healey warm. The other is in my garage at the house (integral to the house). I only put it on when i'm going to be working in the garage; warms up fairly quickly, and does the job. Integral garage should get enough heat from the house not to freeze up without any extra heating.

You would think that wouldnt you but it is like f*cking Siberia out there
I will probably branch into the central heating and put a radiator out there but its not an easy task so Im looking for something in the meantime
What im looking for is something electric that will heat the garage slowly, economically and effectivly

ive installed many electric tubular heaters over the years in the likes of pump rooms and switch rooms. It doesnt exactly give you sauna type heat, but prevents frost and moisture build up, or both

Great value for money, not sure how expensive it would be to run but wouldn't think it should be too bad.

For a little heater seems to heat the place very well!

Brother in law runs an infra red radiant heater in his garage all the time to keep his bikes warm. Apparently it's pennies a day - I think he got it from Costco.

I use a small propane space heater - the smallest one of the clarke range and it does quite well at heating my marley style garage.

Caterham lives in the garage, the 1970's concrete/asbestos roof has gone porous, but the up and over door doesn't fit too well and the airblocks are fairly gubbed - so it's in equlibrium

Based on experience I can advise you not to bother with one of these....

You'd be better off rubbing two sticks together

Cheap halogen panel heater is good for keeping you warm while working - I got one for a tenner
