I've been out of work for some 15 months now. During this period I've had several ideas for starting up on my own but never progressed with any, mostly due to lack of bottle. Well I now feel I should look into the feasibility of one of them but would like a bit of help if possible. I have previously contacted Business Gateway but I really need a less formal sort of guidance just to figure out if it makes sense or not financially. Would anyone be able to help creating a simple financial model to enable me to determine things like what I would need to charge and volume of business required to make it work ?. I know it sounds simple but I would rather take some knowledgeable advice than make assumptions and get it all wrong. I still have my Ltd company set up from contracting and am vat registered. I also still pay an accountant as I still draw a small salary to live off however he doesn't seem too forthcoming with advice on the new venture side of things. I'm happy to pay if the advice is more formal but any assistance would be appreciated to start with. Please PM if you can assist,
Thanks,
Robin

Thought I would throw this on here, given time of year and applications for graduate schemes are closing around now. Over the last few years I've had conversations with a couple of different SE-ers regarding their daughter/son moving into different financial based graduate programmes.
Only requirement for the one I run is a minimum of 2:1, but degree topic is less important. Interest, ability, curiosity and an an appetite for learning is. (I'll stop there before I sound too corporate :D). Given the SE demographics, I'll mention that last year we had a large number of applicants who who had studied oil industry related degrees and one of the grads I took on had a degree in Geology from Aberdeen Uni. So not just for those with financial related degrees.
Whilst not easy to get a place as we have around 600 applicants annually for this programme and a pretty thorough assessment process with only 4 or so places available, if any SE-er wanted a further conversation if they have a family member graduating soon or recently graduated, happy to have a chat :thumbsup. Closing date of 31/12.

Sounds interesting. Am I too late to apply? (I have a 2:1!)

Last year 3 SE-ers contacted me about the graduate programme I run after I posted on this thread, so will stick it up again this year. As before, closing date of 31/12 for applications. Happy to have a chat or share a PM if any questions..

Anyone out there needing some help? Unprecedented times and I know many will be affected, anything we can do to help each other out?

Can you buy your gin online from Alis Mrs? http://thegrail.scot/
Could you get your hot tub from Scott?
Are you hiring?
Have we added each other on Linkedin to increase out networks?

etc.
