Re: Can SE help you through the Credit Crunch?
Hello. I remembered this thread from 2009 (cant believe its been that long) and its regurgitation due to the pandemic.
Wanted to ask if there is anyone on SE or even a friendly contact you have that has experience of Logistics or Distribution or even Warehousing industries that can spare a call to help me understand a little about them ?
Background here is we won Scottish government funding to develop a solution that uses the 5G network. The premise is using low cost electronics, low cost connectivity, long life battery, attaching to an asset of interest within these industries to provide insights in terms of location and utilisation.
Interested to have a chat with someone in these industries to understand possible use cases. Early days in the development road map for reference.
Thanks for any help.
Scott

I'll add to this thread though never thought that it would be anything I could contribute too.
Some will know but after 30 years in oil & gas I was released last year at the start of the pandemic, combination of rig out of work bidding for work that dried up due to travel restrictions. I had half hearty decided that it was time to get out before this happened and was presented with the ideal opportunity to make that happen. Given previous experience and involvement in a few heating projects over the years I re-trained myself as a heating engineer gaining all the required registrations along the way. Gas Safe, Oftec, F-Gas, WRAS, Part L unvented DHW etc etc. It's taken over a years so far, and I am not finished yet but I intend breaking out on my own for boiler servicing, breakdowns and installs.
So if you are in the market then give me a shout, covering the NE, Moray and Aberdeenshire/city.

Also something to investigate is to become a Nest certified installer (not sure how you go about it and how much it costs). I contacted a Nest approved installer for my security camera's and he is out the door with work coming through as an approved installer and even sorting issues out from across the pond. Also it may generate a lot of leads for you before word of mouth gets round.
Also from personal experience. as we are in the countryside trying to find someone who understands domestic oil boilers is always a challenge as majority of installers just deal with Gas. So maybe another niche you can add to your CV

That is what the OFTEC ticket is for as we stay rural as well. Only thing I would like to add is LPG but need to wait for that.douglasgdmw wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 8:01 amBest of luck.Mikie711 wrote:I'll add to this thread though never thought that it would be anything I could contribute too.

Congratulations Mike! - It's a big step to take, but ultimately very rewarding.Mikie711 wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 4:24 pmI'll add to this thread though never thought that it would be anything I could contribute too.

In the past year I have seen a lot of change; many businesses struggling, while others thriving. I have also seen that the pandemic has been a catalyst for change for many with quite a few people deciding to take the plunge and start up. I have found myself spending quite a bit of time advising and helping new businesses get up and running. Speaking of which, feel welcome to give me a shout if you wish any pointers.
Now for the self promo bit - for anyone who doesn't know, I run a small accountancy business based in Glasgow, looking after clients across the UK. We specialize in looking after self assessment, sole traders, partnerships and small companies. Always available and happy to offer advice or help to SE'rs, and happy to take on new business. We currently look after quite a few SE'rs in various capacities. Contact details in my signature:

Re: Can SE help you through the Credit Crunch?
Well, after around 20 years, our Alpha (CB28) LPG combi boiler is about on its last legs as engineer has stated that the injectors are obsolete.
He has cleaned them and it's working but for how much longer? He says best start to look around for a new one.
So asking here if anyone has any contacts for replacement before winter comes?
