10 years eh. Not nearly long enough :(

Typical PJ, no drama, no hassle, no pain. Got up to go for a wander round the garden and his heart just stopped.

I was saying to Wendy today how it seemed like we never, ever, had to give PJ a telling off because he never really did anything you wouldn't want him to do. He was just so chilled and laid back. ..... then she reminded me that we weren't overly happy with him when he ate the next door neighbour's chickens (in full view of their 4 year old child) and that he didn't get much praise for turning her mum's leather sofa into something resembling a crime scene. Other than that tho :D

Anyhow. Great memories of a great chum. I know you're not allowed to have favorite pets, but if you were....

Jim, feel for you mate

He had a good innings for such a large breed, and you always did talk of him with huge fondness. Still doesn't make it easy, thinking of you both...

Oh no. Really sorry to hear that. I’ve just spent 10 mins going through all the pages in this thread - it’s a great reflection of his life and a real mix of photos of all ages, and you have that cracking oil painting too. Feel for you both.

Thanks everyone. It's genuinely appreciated.

We've actually had PJ cremated at a fairly local pet crematorium yesterday. It's the first time I'd really heard of, or given any thought to, that sort of thing. My previous 2 GSD's and 3 Danes are all buried around the garden in areas where we associated them spending most time when they were alive. I imagine Nzo, the GSD, is scared to stand still incase X marks the spot! :D

Obviously having 5 acres of garden helps but PJ being PJ spent almost all his time in the front garden lying in the shade under a monster Scots Pine tree with a trunk about 5m girth so I didn't fancy the chances of my spade making much impact on the root network so decided to make life a bit easier for myself with the cremation and a scatter tube.

I moved into this house 20 years ago and came with a Great Dane and it feels odd not having one for the 1st time. We'll probably give it a bit of time to settle into a 1 dog routine but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a "thread resurrection" at some point in the future.

Can't believe that Star has now turned into a "senior" at 7 years of age.

As he is getting older and his birthday, he has decided that its time to take life a bit easier.Image

Woofy likewise - if she can spend the whole day on her blanket with toilet and lunch breaks, she is a happy dog :-) She's nearly 9 now!

House seemed slightly empty with only one set of paws padding around. The cunning plan still involves another stripey Great Dane but a brindle pup turning up is one of those things that might happen in a week, a month, or a year. Anyhow there's plenty room so.....

Thanks to SE's own Mandy and Mac. Meet Jasper. A 5 weeks old long haired GSD who will be joining the pack in 3 weeks time. Lots of pre-pup excitement here for me and Wendy. Nzo is just enjoying the calm before the storm I guess :)
