Friday 13th

Post by tut » Fri Mar 13, 2009 2:02 pm

I am not superstitious but Verian is. Got a phone call at 0800 this morning when still in bed, Verian had just left for School in Old Meldrum in the Motability Focus, from a motorist to say that Verian had had an accident and her car was in a field. Only four miles away in New Deer so was there in the Elise in three minutes, Police and Ambulance had not arrived, but she was on all four wheels in the field, no other car involved, and still strapped in. Witnesses had not tried to move her as she was in pain from neck and back, but no external injuries, and semi coherent. No air bags had deployed.

Police arrived just after me, then the Ambulance. Twas fairly easy to work out what had happened, she came around the last 90 deg bend into New Deer, probably around 35, there was farmers mud on the road, and she went off left into the field alongside the 30 mph sign. The field was level with the road, but the nose dug into the soft grass and she rolled over end to end and landed on her wheels. Because of the low speed she was barely into the field, but probably came down with a vertical impact. Front and rear bodywork was everywhere, but roof intact. Ambulance men had to jemmy the drivers door open, but it then took a long time for them to get her out and onto a stretcher, so they gassed her out. She was talking to me when they took her off to Aberdeen Hospital, so I went off back home to man the phone.

Ian and Clare are both working in Aberdeen today, so they are on the way to Hospital now, and I should get some news soon. I am hoping that it may just be bruising and whip lash, or at the worse a vertebrae fracture from the vertical impact, ie a typical helicopter pilot injury.

Unlike the rest of the Duncan family, this is the lassie that has never had an accident or points in her life, so she will be fretting about that when she comes to.

Must say Motability have been fantastic, no drama out of a crisis, and they are delivering a new car to the house at 1400, with Ian on the insurance, so that I still have someone to drive me around(sic).

Will update when I hear that Verian is hopefully uninjured.
