Waited almost a week for my dads friend getting me a price for Kumhos or Toyo tyres. Apparantly his suppliers don't have them in stock and said that the Barum Tyres where just as good. He has given me a very cheap quote but I have never heard of them before so my initial thoughts are to go get a kumho or toyo tyre but thought I would ask on here to see if anyone has heard of Barum Tyres

sound like ditchfinders, pretty sure they are the budget tyres people sell with cheap alloy sets.
Stick to whats known as being good, toyo/yoko/kumho

I had these years ago, im sure its a big name maker that makes them but i cant remember who. I think on a car like ours id go for the best tyres i could afford rather than cheap ones tbh

Wouldn't bother. How cheap can they be? I thought £180 odd for Toyo/Kumho was mega cheap.....
As Sanjoy said, Camskill's where to go

Yeah not bothered with the cheapness of tyres just want to get something thats pretty good and thats what he offered. As I thought I will try buy kumhos or toyos from someone else. I believe its Continental that makes barums.

Think you're right. They're ok I guess. I used to put them on my old Polo. Perfectly fine for that.
A quick check around (for the wider sizes) and I don't think they make the Rears (in the same tread as any of the fronts they do). I've a feeling that there aren't that many that do. Think Ali Crozier posted a list recently somewhere of all the brands available in the wide sizes, and there was maybe half a dozen....
Anyway, happy hunting

I've heard of them before and as mentioned above they're the cheap version of conti's.
I first heard of them a while back when shopping for tyres in at Viking international in Kilbirnie place. Have you tried them for your Kumho/Toyos ???
I buy all my tyres from there and get a mate to fit them I can't get them cheaper anywhere else including online.

I got my Kumho's from Camskill and i really rate the tyres and the price.
You never know, these tyres might be absolutely excellent, but are you prepared to spend 150 quid finding out, only to possibly have to junk them if they're crap??

i actually had a Barum on the rear of the 111R for a bit.
one of my rears shredded on the way to work one day and it was the only/cheapest (delete as appropriate) tyre the nearest place had in stock. Did less than a thousand miles on it.
was ok for daily stuff but i wouldnt have fancied using it in anger.

I need a cheaper alternative to R tyres, especially with the wear on the rears. The Kumhos would be fine on the road, but how would they be on the track for N3?
I presume that they would be better in the wet, and I can live with less grip in the dry, but would they go off after eight laps or so at KH, as that would make them no goers.

I didn't find them going off Tut, you just need to let the pressure down as they heat up, but i have alot less power than you.
Personally, i think the biggest problem is your competitiveness. Your obviously going to get hassled by 48 shod cars, and you might not like that. They are however, very cheap, and will last a shed load longer than 48's

I havent had Barums on the Elise but did get them on a Clio once and wouldnt do it again!
I had 195/50/15 and found that they were crap compared to what I usually went for. Felt a lot more skittish on the road. I would look at Khumos, Federal, Falken if your looking for a reasonable budget tyre.

Had Barums on the Porsche, they were OK but rock hard - 10k miles on them by me and no sign of wear... Would randomly brake traction too at unexpected moments. I'd think OK on a daily sh!tbox (and the Porsche) but better Elise options can be had for little more money.
Reminds me I need another pair of Avons for the rear of the Porker

Thanks Neil, think I will do a compromise.
I have a spare set of wheels, so will put the Kumhos on for the road and KH, could drive that blindfolded anyway, and don't mind the back end sliding, plus it won't affect lap times too much, but will use the R's for Donnie, Oulton and Croft, where I would be mixing it with the Englanders with similar or more power, and 48R's.
If I do make FF the decision will be either new Kumhos at the start and hope they last through, or R's to get the most out of the new tracks, then put whatever roads I could get over there when they wore out part way through.
