Cue the TTOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!!! comments.
97 so has hard top/soft top difficulties(door inserts off every time)
also this whole pointy rivet thing in the chassis rail puncturing rad pipe on the pre 99 cars is a concern. How the hell would you sort that??

I know i'm a fussy, cynical bas*ard. I guess thats just part of Lotus ownership. Get used to it etc etc...

Tom, what are the door inserts ?

The 99 cars(certainly mine) wasnt without its niggles. If things like annoy, s2 would be the way....

I would need a hard roof as it would spend it's whole life outside. Pre may 98 the cant rails were a different shape, which means cars before then, when you swap the hard top for the soft top, you have to take the door cards off and manually adjust the windows. The shut heights are different for the different roofs.

(boring tw*t mode off)

shooomer wrote:Just get a set of later cant rails etc. If you buy the hardtop from Lotus all the kit is included. I ran a hardtop on my 96 and 97 cars but didn't do what you are saying.
Gosh, I'm putting my foot in it today  . I've been thinking for ages that that wasn't possible, and therefore immediately discounting the earlier cars  I didn't realise that the cant rails were swappable. Just to clear it all up, I can buy any S1(regardless of age), buy a hardtop from Lotus and they give me all the bits with it so there's no window faffing about??

No need for a hardtop ya jesee, both my VX and your bro's S2 were fine outside!

if it leaks which the VX did a bit, keep a towel in the boot - always worked well i found!

Dave

I've said it to you before (and you ignored me :? ) you'll be better off with the softtop and a shower cape over that, when parked up, if it's lobbing it down. That categorically won't leak and you won't have to twat about finding a place to store it when you get it off (fnaaarrrr)

Mandy's S1 leaks like a sieve - the windows splay outwards FFS - all you need it a towel.

TBH - perhaps you need to ask yourself if you want an elise or just like the thought of owning one.

They are a car for the enthusiast, the leak, they rattle and clunk and aren't the most reliable car in the world, no matter what you do to them.

Perhaps an MX5 or a S2000 might be more suited (or even a celica  )
