I lower the weight of my Liz by putting the roof in the boot and improve handling by inflating my tyres to 10 Bar. Makes it go much faster. I have even replaced the engine with a 1.1 K8 cos it's lighter so it goes faster. I am not a Ned/Chav/Pillock

That sort of thing gets us Vauxhall drivers a bad name. I'm just off to fold down my back seats... weight saving & all :D

That is really revolutionary news about the back seats :o If only I'd known that in my 1.3 Astra days!!

Hi Neil

I had a Mitsubishi Galant estate car for 3+ years and 120,000 + miles and had no problems with engine, air con, electrics etc, had to have a gearbox/driveshaft after 115,000 miles but other than servicing, tyres etc it was very, very good reliability wise. So bit surprised at your Mitsu experience.. Although service manager was a prick! (Newbridge)

As to your off-road requirements, how serious do you need to get?

My experiene (albeit limited) is that tyres will contribute to 80+% of off-road ability, unless ground clearance is a big factor.

I'm drawn to the Nissan because of it's 179HP engine 8) and big load-bay, gadgets and Nissan's reliability reputation, also the 6 speed box helps the mpg's.. The Mitsu, Isuzu, Ford and 'yota are just too gutless (on paper anyway..)

Look forward to hearing of your test-drive experiences..

p.s. have you considered a 'commercial' van type Shogun, Cherokee etc?
