Rusty Sheriff's Badge...

Post by GregR » Tue May 30, 2006 8:52 am

or as close as you can get to one in the Liz...

My two rear grilles are rusty and now look, well, cack! Any advice on what to do with them? Take em off, throw in bin / replace with extortionate eliseparts ones / repaint ?

If this should be in Techy, then apologies  .

Cheers,

Greg :D

Yup - I'm gonna try and get mine re-done by Woody before mexi-towers. All depends on his shifts and it's a favour from workmates, though.

Cheap / lasts the longest = tin of hammerite, brush on two coats
Expensive / just like original = sandblast, spray tin of Plasti-coat from B&Q or Halfrauds

I've had to do this twice over the past 4 years (probably because I didn't do it properly the first time!) I used satin black plasticote stuff the second time with a couple of coats of undercote first, and so far so good.

Might be a good idea to use some rust treatment on the mesh before hand, (as well as a wire brush!) and would be a good idea to have something like a dremel on standby incase you need to grind the bolt heads off if they have rusted (which they probably have)

Anyway, heres a handy guide: http://www.southrun.co.uk/grills.php

And by the way, hello everyone, just joined today! :)

Empty all the rubbish out of your dad's garage then and you'll be able to put it in there :)
